Temporary DevOps/System Engineer (3 months Contract)
About The Position
This is a temporary 3-month contract position for a DevOps/System Engineer. The role involves engineering and supporting system administration solutions for project and operational needs, including installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux and Windows servers, managing virtualization platforms, and configuring enterprise storage environments. The engineer will also support infrastructure automation tools, manage deployment and inventory systems, administer network equipment, and develop operational procedures. Responsibilities include configuring and troubleshooting storage systems, supporting EDA tools and license environments, contributing to system standards and security best practices, researching automation solutions, applying security patches, monitoring system health, performing backup and recovery, managing user accounts, providing Tier III support, managing various environments like Jira and Jenkins, performing performance tuning, and handling hardware installation and migration in data centers. The role may require after-hours and weekend support.
Requirements
- 7+ years of Linux System Administration/System Engineering experience.
- Strong VMware administration and management expertise.
- Experience administering Jenkins, Git, and DevOps tool environments.
- Strong Linux skills including shell scripting, cron jobs, log analysis, user/group administration, iptables configuration, and mail services.
- Experience with Ansible and infrastructure automation.
- Experience with Cisco network equipment preferred.
- Familiarity with reverse proxies, SSL certificates, HTTP, SOA, ESB, and three-tier architecture.
- Proven ability to multitask and work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to move, install, and rack/stack servers in data center environments.
Nice To Haves
- CompTIA Linux+, RHCSA, RHCE, or similar certifications preferred.
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570.1 IAT Level II certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Engineer and support system administration solutions for project and operational needs.
- Install, configure, rebuild, and maintain Linux and Windows servers.
- Manage virtualization platforms including VMware, KVM, and related technologies.
- Configure and maintain enterprise storage environments such as NetApp, Dell/EMC, and Pure Storage.
- Support infrastructure automation tools including Ansible.
- Manage Foreman deployment systems and GLPI inventory platforms.
- Administer network equipment including Cisco, Mellanox, and other infrastructure devices.
- Install and configure systems supporting infrastructure and R&D activities.
- Develop and maintain installation, configuration, and operational procedures.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot storage systems while coordinating with vendors.
- Install and support EDA tools and FlexLM license environments.
- Contribute to system standards and security best practices.
- Research and implement automation solutions to improve operational efficiency.
- Apply security patches and upgrades across Linux, Windows, VMware, and web service environments.
- Monitor system health, logs, backups, and security compliance.
- Perform backup, recovery, file archival, and storage management activities.
- Create and manage user accounts and access controls.
- Provide Tier III support and troubleshoot hardware, software, and infrastructure issues.
- Manage Jira, Git, LDAP, Jenkins, and VMware environments.
- Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimization.
- Rack, stack, install, and migrate server hardware in data centers and labs.
- Participate in after-hours and weekend support as required.
