DevOps Staff Platform Engineer

Orion Digital
Remote

About The Position

This role builds the enabling layer for Orion Digital's financial platform, which spans lending, payments, and wealth. The platform engineering team owns the infrastructure that multiple business lines, regulated entities, and public company reporting obligations run on. The platform's performance directly impacts the speed and success of the business's capital allocation, decisioning, and risk management strategies. The team focuses on building a platform for both humans and agents, emphasizing machine-executable contracts, secure agent access, and robust observability to ensure safe scaling of autonomy.

Requirements

  • Deep, current production experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and a modern GitOps deployment stack.
  • Proven experience owning and running built systems in production.
  • Real cloud depth, with production experience in at least one of AWS or OCI, and the ability to quickly become fluent in the other.
  • Daily use of coding and operations agents (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent) and the ability to demonstrate their application.
  • Ability to provide examples of systems shipped recently where an agent performed significant work.
  • Strong opinions on the appropriate use of autonomy, informed by past experiences.
  • Ability to write clear documentation understandable by junior engineers and AI models.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building internal developer platforms, MCP servers, or agent tooling that achieved significant adoption.
  • Experience with non-human identity, secrets architecture, or policy-as-code in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with re-platforming at scale, especially where the old system could not be taken down.
  • Opinions on how to evaluate infrastructure agents.

Responsibilities

  • Build the substrate for agentic engineering, designing and running execution environments that are sandboxed, reproducible, permissioned, and disposable.
  • Stand up and own the MCP and tool-gateway layer, enabling agents to access infrastructure through governed interfaces.
  • Transform CI/CD into a validation loop with fast, deterministic gates that agents can retry against, incorporating humans in the loop rather than directly in it.
  • Own the multi-cloud Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and GitOps (ArgoCD) delivery.
  • Drive infrastructure modernization across cloud environments, including dependency mapping and documentation.
  • Serve all product lines without building separate platforms, converging where possible and respecting genuine differences.
  • Integrate security and compliance as design constraints from the initial commit.
  • Push autonomous remediation into operational paths to reduce human intervention during alerts and incidents.
  • Own and improve key metrics such as deploy frequency, lead time, change failure rate, MTTR, and the percentage of operational work handled without human intervention.
  • Collaborate with operations, compliance, and support teams to absorb repetitive work through platform automation.

Benefits

  • Fully Remote Work
  • Comprehensive Health Benefits (medical, dental, vision)
  • Health Spending Account
  • Stock Options
  • Flex Vacation
  • Wellbeing Programs (counselling, mental health support)
