DevOps Engineer

Primordial Labs•New Haven, CT

About The Position

Primordial Labs is seeking a DevOps Engineer to own how its Anura software is built, tested, packaged, and delivered across platforms, from robotic onboard computers to disconnected customer networks. The role will expand the existing CI pipeline into a fast, repeatable, and trustworthy CI/CD system that moves changes from a developer’s laptop to fielded robots. During the first six months, the focus will be on CI/CD and automated testing, followed by edge deployment and updates, with secure and disconnected delivery becoming a growing focus over time. The engineer will design and maintain build, test, packaging, and release workflows; integrate engineering and Test and Evaluation testing tools; and operate self-hosted runners, including GPU and hardware-in-the-loop systems. The role also covers deployment and safe updates on robotic and embedded platforms, device monitoring and diagnostics, developer workflow automation, and helping the team adopt effective testing and CI practices. As the work grows, the engineer will help enable delivery to air-gapped networks and introduce software supply-chain security measures. This is a fully remote role open to residents of the United States. Due to federal compliance requirements, applicants must be U.S. citizens currently residing in the United States; permanent residency or visa sponsorship does not meet this requirement. The target base salary is $160,000–$200,000 annually, determined by experience. The position includes an equity stake and benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) with a 6% company match, discretionary time off, and an elite technology package.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
  • Hands-on experience building CI/CD pipelines with automated testing.
  • Experience deploying software to edge, embedded, or robotic systems.
  • Strong experience with GitHub Actions or a similar CI system, including self-hosted runners.
  • Experience building and testing mixed Python and C++ codebases, including CMake.
  • Strong experience with Docker and containerized builds.
  • Proficiency in Linux administration and scripting with Python or Bash.
  • Ability to own problems end to end and make sound decisions without a large team around you.
  • U.S. citizenship and current residency within the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience delivering software into air-gapped or classified environments.
  • Experience deploying to NVIDIA Jetson or other GPU edge hardware, including GPU-enabled containers and cross-compiling for ARM.
  • Experience with software supply-chain security and compliance, such as code signing, SBOMs, NIST 800-171, or CMMC.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Ansible, and a major cloud provider; AWS GovCloud or Azure Government experience is a plus.
  • Experience at a startup or small defense technology company.

Responsibilities

  • Expand existing GitHub Actions CI into full CI/CD covering automated builds, tests, packaging, and reproducible releases across multiple target platforms.
  • Integrate testing tools built by engineering and Test and Evaluation teams so they run automatically and reliably on changes.
  • Set up and maintain self-hosted runners, including GPU and hardware-in-the-loop runners.
  • Improve pipeline speed and reliability by reducing build times, investigating flaky tests, and making results actionable for engineers.
  • Design packaging, deployment, and update processes for robotic and embedded platforms, including NVIDIA GPU edge devices.
  • Work with engineers to bring up new partner platforms quickly.
  • Build safe update workflows for fielded devices, including versioned releases, rollback, and tracking software versions on customer hardware.
  • Build monitoring, logging, and diagnostic tooling for devices with limited bandwidth or intermittent connectivity.
  • Automate environment setup and other manual workflows that slow engineers down.
  • Support good testing and CI practices through documentation, code reviews, and pairing.
  • Help build air-gapped delivery workflows, including offline packaging and transfer.
  • Add pipeline security practices such as dependency scanning, signing, and SBOM generation.

Benefits

  • Significant equity stake.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • 401(k) with a 6% company match.
  • Generous discretionary time off (DTO).
  • Elite technology package.
