About The Position

Synapse ITS is hiring a mid-level DevOps Engineer to help run, automate, and secure SYO, its intelligent cloud ecosystem for cities and DOTs. The engineer will work with a distributed engineering team and play a key role in SOC 2 compliance work. Success in the first 6–12 months includes fully automated deployments with documented rollback paths, monitoring and actionable alerts for critical services, ownership of defined SOC 2 controls and evidence collection, and measurable improvements in incident response time and deployment frequency.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure roles.
  • Hands-on production experience with at least one major cloud provider: AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Strong skills with Infrastructure as Code tools, ideally Terraform and Terragrunt.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including EKS, AKS, GKE, or self-managed Kubernetes.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins.
  • Scripting skills in Bash and in Python, Go, or PowerShell.
  • Solid Linux, networking (DNS, TLS, load balancing, VPC/VNet), and Git fundamentals.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Google Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, and Grafana.
  • Clear written and verbal communication in English, and comfort working asynchronously with a distributed team.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance programs.
  • Exposure to IoT, edge devices, or real-time data streaming such as MQTT, Kafka, or Pub/Sub.
  • Familiarity with GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Flux, and Helm.
  • Background in traffic, smart city, or mission-critical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, tests, security scanning, and deployments.
  • Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Terragrunt.
  • Operate containerized workloads on Kubernetes or managed container services, including scaling, upgrades, and cost tuning.
  • Set up and improve monitoring, logging, alerting, and dashboards to track availability, latency, and the health of device and data pipelines.
  • Respond to production support issues and incidents; troubleshoot and resolve problems, conduct root-cause analysis, and write blameless postmortems.
  • Implement SOC 2 controls, including access management, encryption, patching, and audit evidence collection.
  • Manage backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability setups, and test them against RTO/RPO targets.
  • Support developers across time zones with environment setup, release coordination, and troubleshooting.
  • Write and maintain runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
  • Identify manual toil and automate it.
