DevOps Engineer

TechChain Talent•Austin, TX

About The Position

Etherealize is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer as its first dedicated DevOps hire and foremost infrastructure expert. The role owns how the company’s products are deployed, secured, observed, and kept running as they move from beta to production for institutional clients. The engineer will build and operate infrastructure for multiple client environments, contractual SLAs, and SOC 2 readiness, as well as production blockchain infrastructure, including Ethereum execution clients and a zero-knowledge proving pipeline. This is a hands-on role with substantial autonomy, spanning engineering, security, and protocol teams; the hire is expected to recommend and implement infrastructure approaches and execute as a one- or two-person function. The engineer will own AWS infrastructure in Terraform; manage deployment and operations of client-facing web application environments; operate Ethereum L1 nodes and Reth-based execution clients; and keep node and GPU-heavy proving workloads healthy, scalable, and observable. The role also includes designing monitoring, dashboards, alerting, backups, disaster recovery, high availability, and failover; integrating secrets management and private-key handling into infrastructure-as-code; partnering on SOC 2 readiness and infrastructure controls; and defining production incident response practices, runbooks, and post-mortems. Etherealize is building infrastructure intended to bring traditional financial assets onto blockchain protocols. The company describes the role as an opportunity to define its infrastructure, security operations, and reliability from the ground up, with direct collaboration with engineering, security, and leadership.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or SRE roles.
  • At least 3 years writing and managing production-grade Terraform on AWS.
  • Experience building modular, reusable Terraform and reconciling significantly drifted Terraform state without taking infrastructure down.
  • Front-line experience deploying and operating production infrastructure at organizations where uptime and data integrity had significant business consequences.
  • Strong SRE fundamentals, including observability, alerting, backups and restores, disaster recovery, and high availability across zones and regions.
  • Experience with secrets management in an infrastructure-as-code pipeline, such as HashiCorp Vault or an equivalent.
  • Experience protecting signing keys within a hardware or cryptographic boundary, such as cloud KMS, HSM, MPC, or Vault Transit, with rotation and access control.
  • Genuine familiarity with blockchain infrastructure, including experience with Ethereum or EVM infrastructure and understanding node synchronization and failure modes.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong communication, and problem-solving ability for difficult, novel infrastructure problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience operating Ethereum L1 or L2 node software in production, including snapshots, restores, read replicas, reorg handling, and sync monitoring.
  • Experience operating a Reth instance or an L2 or rollup stack.
  • Deeper HashiCorp ecosystem experience, including Sentinel or Boundary.
  • SOC 2 or comparable compliance experience from the infrastructure side.
  • Experience operating ZK proving infrastructure or GPU clusters, including monitoring, scaling, and hardware health.
  • Experience integrating with Web3 custodians and addressing their key-management, network, and data-centre security requirements.
  • Kubernetes and container-based deployment at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own AWS infrastructure in Terraform and design modular, well-architected Terraform that scales across multiple client environments.
  • Take over deployment and management of client-facing web application environments, including CI/CD, environment provisioning, and regular contract and application upgrades.
  • Run and maintain production Ethereum node software, including Ethereum L1 nodes and Reth-based execution client instances; manage synchronization, snapshots and restores, read replicas, and reorg handling.
  • Operate and monitor the ZK proving pipeline alongside the execution client, including management and monitoring of a GPU cluster.
  • Build monitoring, dashboards, and alerting for conventional web metrics and chain-specific health, including sync distance, block times, time since last block, and proving throughput.
  • Design and test backups, disaster recovery, multi-AZ and multi-region resilience, and traffic failover.
  • Integrate secrets management into the infrastructure-as-code pipeline, including private key and signer key handling.
  • Partner with the security lead on SOC 2 readiness, policy-as-code, and infrastructure controls.
  • Define production incident response, including on-call, escalation, runbooks, and post-mortems.
  • Work with protocol engineers to understand execution client customizations and the proving pipeline, and improve how they are deployed and operated.

Benefits

  • Flexible, fast-moving work environment with immediately visible impact.
  • Substantial scope and autonomy to define infrastructure, security operations, and reliability.
  • Opportunity to work with the CTO, a co-founder, and a team with experience at Coinbase, Bloomberg, Microsoft, and Kraken.
  • Career-development opportunity at a startup with ties to the Ethereum Foundation and other foundational Ethereum institutions.
