About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. Caswell Developmental Center serves as North Carolina's Eastern Region resource center, providing specialized residential, programmatic, and support services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The individuals served are at the heart of the facility, and the team is critical to the mission. The Center strives to create an environment where every team member contributes to the overall success of the Center to positively impact the lives of those around them and the individuals serviced.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis (6-8 times daily) and be able to stoop, bend, walk, run short distances (50 yards) and climb stairs without limitations of a permanent nature to provide adequate supervision of the assigned population in the home.
  • Must be in good standing with the Health Care Personnel Registry and other licensing boards/agencies.

  • Understanding of approved behavioral intervention programs, medication administration protocols, and the specific needs of the population served.
  • Ability to clearly document client progress and behaviors, and effectively communicate with families and team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with individuals, families, and professional staff while maintaining a professional and even-tempered demeanor.
  • Capable of independently following up on services to ensure client needs are met, while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
  • Listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
  • Listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of assigned individuals.
  • Implement clients’ habilitation and training plans.
  • Assist with personal care, home living, socialization, leisure activities, and safety needs.
  • Support the development of daily living and other essential skills in classroom and training settings.
  • Provide transportation to activities, classes, appointments, and shopping trips.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, including seizures, accidents, and other urgent situations.
  • Perform housekeeping duties and maintain accurate records and documentation.
