About The Position

The Beatrice State Developmental Center (BSDC) provides care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping people live better lives every day. BSDC is currently seeking dedicated teammates who are passionate about making a difference and want to Help People Live Better Lives as a Developmental Technician. This role now offers a 4-day workweek with 10-hour shifts, providing 3 days off each week for better work-life balance. The position involves meaningful, rewarding work supporting others in a supportive team environment with great State of Nebraska benefits. Schedules include day, evening, and overnight shifts.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Incumbents are required to work regularly scheduled shifts with predictable attendance and work overtime up to and including entire shifts.
  • These positions are subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post disaster, etc.)
  • Incumbents must complete a state approved medication aide course and successfully pass a written and clinical competency exam administered by the State of Nebraska and be placed on the State of Nebraska Medication Aide Registry as a condition of continued employment.
  • Positions classified to this class may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases and blood and airborne pathogens such as TB, HIV and Hepatitis.
  • Ability to lift, bend, push and/or pull 50 pounds on a continuous basis to assist clients in meeting their needs and maintaining safety within the home.
  • Knowledge of general developmental care skills.
  • Knowledge of preparing and maintaining individual's records and charts.
  • Knowledge of Nebraska Medication Aide registration requirements.
  • Skill in active listening.
  • Skill in communicating clearly with others.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and individuals.
  • Ability to provide quality daily care to individuals.
  • Ability to complete courses and competency evaluations.
  • Ability to document treatment/training plans.
  • Ability to count accurately and record numerical and alphabetical data.
  • Ability to observe, recognize, report on physical status.
  • Demonstrate proper lifting, including a buddy lift, within a weight range of 50 to 200 lbs. to heights of 36 inches.
  • Ability to lift, bend, push and/or pull 50 pounds on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to provide quality day care to individuals.
  • Ability to implement written treatment/training plans with supporting written record keeping.
  • Ability to administer medications.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to work regularly scheduled shifts with predictable attendance.
  • Ability to work overtime up to and including entire shifts.
  • Proficiency in English, including the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the language effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities with day-to-day supports.
  • Perform and/or monitor individual's personal hygiene care such as toileting, bathing, grooming, and dressing.
  • Maintain an active environment to expand individuals’ skills.
  • Follow individualized written plans for behavioral training.
  • Document information related to individual activities, supports, adverse reactions, etc.
  • Administer medication and treatment to individuals.
  • Participate in discussions with interdisciplinary team members about how to best support individuals.
  • Monitor physical environment and take necessary action to ensure safety, sanitary environment and compliance with State and Federal Standards.
  • Recognize emergencies and take appropriate steps to resolve the situation.
  • Accompany individuals into the community on trips, leisure, or medical appointments.
  • Successfully complete all training and certification requirements and become certified on the Nebraska Medication Aide Registry.
