The Developmental Specialist works in a day habilitation program that uses a person-centered approach, structured activities, and interventions to support participants in five key areas: changes in physical functioning, cognitive ability, executive functioning, behavior and emotion regulation, and language and communication development. The program combines consistent scheduling, routines, and visual and auditory adaptations with individualization, community inclusion, and skill acquisition to help participants achieve greater independence and growth. The role provides intensive, hands-on services both in the community and at the program site. Areas of support include social skill training, personal care, leisure time exposure and development, behavior programming and anger management, emotion regulation techniques, community integration and inclusion, physical exercise and mobility training, and pre-vocational skill development.
