The Developmental Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting people to achieve their personal dreams and goals. This role involves assessing each person's hopes and desires, providing supports to facilitate achievement, and assisting them in developing relationships within their community and with their natural supports. The specialist also helps individuals participate fully in their community, ensures their rights are protected and promoted, and assists in developing advocacy skills. Support is provided to meet emotional, physical, and medical needs, fostering positive relationships and promoting self-determination. The role includes contributing to assessment and planning processes, implementing individual plans, and documenting progress accurately. Daily progress notes and communication logs are maintained to ensure goals and interests are met. The specialist also assists with the day-to-day operations of the home, including housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, shopping, and vehicle maintenance. Transportation may be required. Knowledge of emergency procedures and personal safety is essential, along with effective judgment in safety-related situations. The role may involve assisting with new staff orientation, mentoring, and training, and sleepovers at a residential setting may be required. Attendance and participation in meetings and training are necessary, along with maintaining all required certifications. Compliance with agency policies, procedures, and relevant statutes and regulations is expected. The position follows service definition guidelines and completes other assigned responsibilities.
