About The Position

The Cottage Supervisor manages assigned staff and cottage operations to ensure youth served are safe, properly supervised and thriving. The cottage supervisor ensures that agency and programmatic standards are maintained. The supervisor is a management position responsible for the supervision and management of a CHN cottage, providing quality care and services to youth that are on the Autism spectrum and/or have intellectual/developmental disabilities, in a therapeutic residential setting.

Requirements

  • Staff responsible for the supervision, evaluation, or monitoring of the direct care staff shall have a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, ABA, special education, or a related area of study from an accredited college or university and at least two (2) years of experience working with children or adults that with a variety of developmental/intellectual disabilities; or two (2) years of college and three (3) years of experience working with children or adults that with a variety of developmental/intellectual disabilities; or at least five (5) years of experience working with children or adults that with a variety of developmental/intellectual disabilities.
  • First Aid and CPR Certified or ability to obtain within 30 days of new hire date.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license with no record of criminal driving offense of license suspension.
  • Must possess means of providing job related transportation and show proof of required insurance. Must be insurable under CHN’s current auto insurance policy.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain FDLE clearance, Federal background and state criminal background check and sexual predator screening.
  • Knowledge of Department of Children and Families rules and regulations regarding the care of children.
  • Knowledge of cottage budget and fiscal procedures.
  • Knowledge of contract requirements with CBC’s and DCF.
  • Knowledge of child abuse or neglect Mandated reporting procedures.
  • Knowledge of the impact of trauma on children serve, their behavior and development.
  • Knowledge & practice of effective supervisory and management practices, techniques and methods.
  • Knowledge & practice of CHN’s organizational structure, and all Procedures and Policies.
  • Fiscal and budget management.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with youth served and their families, co-workers, supervisors, child welfare partners and other individuals.
  • Effective, timely and efficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Managing overtime of staff.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in PBIS practices and supports the ongoing implementation throughout the organization.
  • Ability to perform physical restraint techniques as required utilizing the CPI method.
  • Ability to participate in physical activities with children (weighing 107 pounds on average) that may require bending, stooping, and moderate lifting.
  • Ability to perform moderate lifting.
  • Ability to run, walk, skip, hop or jump.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operation and delivery of high quality and trauma informed services to youth residing in the Kids Village program cottage(s), that house youth that are on the Autism spectrum and/or have intellectual/developmental disabilities, to include support with daily living skills and follow through of their individual behavior plans.
  • Ensures adequate staff: youth ratios are maintained in the cottage at all times.
  • Provides supervision, feedback and coaching to direct reports to assist them with job proficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provides leadership and models expected behavior, and participates in rotation of duties such as SOD and crisis intervention when needed on campus.
  • Demonstrates and supports staff proficiency in application of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
  • Implements Trauma Informed and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports child centered approach to care; and provides training, support and guidance for all team members to do the same.
  • Oversee the delivery of services that are aligned with the Applied Behavior Analysis treatment plans and practices, and work collaboratively with the ABA therapists.
  • Completes all required supervisory tasks and reports in accordance to procedure, contract requirements and CHN standards.
  • Manages and supervises caregivers to ensure the timely and efficient completion of duties, documentation and tasks.
  • Follows agency requirements in response to critical incidents including Mandated Reporting. Complete incident and injury reports for campus (both workers comp and critical incident reports) within shift it occurred shift.
  • Complies with CHN requirements for vehicle use documentation and maintenance.
  • Ensures campus routines are followed and participates in planned activities.
  • Accessible 24/7 for emergency needs related to cottage youth or to secure/provide shift coverage when necessary to ensure adequate staff: youth ratios.
  • Monitors compliance with required MyEvolv (electronic medical record) documentation.
  • Is a contributing and participating member of the campus and cottage behavioral management rewards system, continually reinforcing consistency and alignment with positive behavioral management strategies, as well as full participation in established campus/cottage routines and programs.
  • Ensures cottage and staff compliance with safety and cleanliness standards and licensing requirements such as fire drills, medication administration, and safety checks, etc.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking a problem solving skills to address cottage, campus or youth issues.
  • Operate as a team member with other Cottage Supervisors to maintain a safe milieu and to respond to emergent needs on campus or while with youth in the community.
  • Responsible for monitoring campus activities, staffing, ensuring a safe, effective environment is maintained.
  • Participates in organization’s Continuous Quality Improvement Efforts, Positive Behavioral Supports, PQI data, Residential Care Reports and COA compliance or other reports/data collection as directed.
  • Completes and or assists with HR functions related to, minimally, timecards, staff schedules, progressive discipline, and hiring.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
