Working within the Planning & Development Services department and reporting to the Senior Planner, Development Planning, the Development Planner I plays a pivotal role in contributing to the Planning & Development Services initiatives of Parkland County. The Development Planner I is responsible for reviewing and making decisions related to residential and non-residential development permit applications in accordance with the County's Land Use Bylaw and other applicable legislation. The Development Planner I is responsible to respond to inquiries and provide accurate information to the County's development customer base.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Environmental Design or a related field.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience and knowledge related to Land Use Bylaw applicable sections of the Municipal Government Act, and an understanding of the development permitting process.
Strong working knowledge of development permit applications, land use planning practices and possess the demonstrated ability to analyse and evaluate complex challenges to form effective decisions.
Strong customer service skills with the demonstrated ability to respond to and anticipate customer needs in a professional manner.
Strong conflict resolution, active listening and communication skills are required.
Ability to effectively balance competing and conflicting interests, application deadlines and work tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to primarily work in-person at Parkland County Centre – 53109A HWY 779, Parkland County, AB.
A valid class 5 driver’s license and current, satisfactory driver’s abstract provided upon hire.
A satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required upon hire, excluding candidates under the age of 18 and current Parkland County employees.
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), the Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI) or Alberta Development Officer’s Association (ADOA) is considered an asset.
