About The Position

Nexus Family Healing is looking to hire a Controller to join our fantastic Finance department! Position Summary: Our Development Officer (Individual Giving) drives revenue growth by managing and expanding a portfolio of individual donors and prospects capable of giving $1,000+ annually. This role focuses on personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to deepen donor engagement and increase lifetime value. The successful candidate is a relationship builder with strong fundraising acumen, disciplined pipeline management, excellent communication skills, and a passion for our mission.

Requirements

  • Experience and knowledge of the philanthropic environment in MN
  • 3–5 years of fundraising experience with demonstrated success soliciting gifts at the $1K+ level (or relevant relationship management experience with a track record of closing).
  • Ability to travel up to 40% in the MN/ND area
  • Experience and comfort presenting to donors and small groups.
  • Experience and proficiency with a CRM (e.g., Raiser’s Edge/NXT or similar); disciplined data hygiene
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Valid driver’s license required. Must meet state regulating agency and Home Office driving requirements
  • Must be able to travel without assistance via car for more than 40% of work time, depending on donor assignments in assigned region. Air travel will be required for team retreats, and other organization meetings as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with the capacity to give $1,000+.
  • Create annual, personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies based on donor interests and capacity.
  • Conduct 8–12 high quality, mission aligned donor engagements each month (meetings, virtual, calls) to deepen relationships and guide donors toward meaningful giving opportunities.
  • Apply relationship management techniques to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, ensuring clear next steps and timely follow up.
  • Personally solicit gifts at the $1K–$25K level, securing renewals, upgrades, and multi-year commitments.
  • Partner with the Director of Development on strategy for leadership annual giving and major gifts.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, board members, and program staff to support strategic solicitations and donor meetings.
  • Prepare compelling proposals, briefing materials, and donor communications, tailor cases for support to donor interests.
  • Deliver an exceptional stewardship experience: timely acknowledgments, meaningful impact reporting, and donor touchpoints.
  • Coordinate recognition opportunities and engagement activities (e.g., small gatherings, site visits) in conjunction with foundation team members and agency leaders.
  • Track and report outcomes of stewardship activities to improve retention and upgrade rates.
  • Qualify new prospects via referrals from donor services team, identifying opportunities for connection and engagement
  • Maintain accurate, timely records in the CRM (actions, proposals, contact reports, next steps).
  • Track progress to goals; produce monthly portfolio and revenue forecasts.
  • Partner closely with MarCom and Foundation team members on donor messaging and with Events on cultivation opportunities.
  • Remains self-motivated and demonstrates the ability to work independently and as a part of a team; effectively collaborates with colleagues on projects and special initiatives.
  • Remains current on all required trainings and certifications; maintains working and applicable knowledge of all Nexus policies and procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate boundaries are maintained in all staff/donor interactions
  • Exercises moral judgement and sound decision making; exercises the ability to plan, prioritize, organize and problem and effectively manage multiple projects and activities while responding to change.
  • Ensure confidentiality regarding client and donor information and comply with Nexus policies involving client and donor privacy and
  • Demonstrates an acceptance and respectfulness toward diversity concerning commonalities and differences such as: gender, race, age, culture, ethnicity, class, religion, sexual preference, disability, and gender identity.
  • Understands all Nexus policies and procedures and references and applies policies as needed.
