About The Position

Claremont McKenna College (CMC) is seeking a gift officer with the capacity to develop donor relationships and support the strategic priorities of the Office of Advancement. This position will play an integral role within the Office of the Vice President for Advancement and will be focused on donor cultivation and solicitation in pursuit of strategic fundraising priorities. This includes a significant focus on developing and managing prospect pipelines and leveraging events to deliver fundraising results, while also managing discrete fundraising projects, including gift solicitations. The Development Officer will seek to secure annual donors to the College to help achieve desired participation outcomes. The Development Officer must also work collaboratively with other Development teams and the Research and Relationship Management Team (RMT).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required.
  • Three or more years of successful fundraising experience, including the solicitation of mid-level gifts.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, excellent writing skills and ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • A valid driver’s license or equivalent alternate form of transportation is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Office of the Vice President in developing and managing donor pipelines for the strategic fundraising priorities of the College.
  • Qualify donor prospects in associated pipelines and work with the RMT team to ensure appropriate gift officer assignments.
  • Collaborate with the leadership giving officers to highlight pipeline prospects within their portfolios and track outcomes of each pipeline, to be reported to the Office of the Vice President as needed.
  • Serve as a lead project manager for restricted fundraising initiatives, as directed by the Acting Head of Advancement and AVP of Advancement.
  • Partner with key offices in Advancement and across campus to develop the strategic plan, prospect plan, and execution of solicitations.
  • Plan and project manage fundraising events, both on and off campus, in conjunction with Development and Engagement teams within Advancement.
  • Implement a system to leverage events for fundraising outcomes.
  • Ensure top prospects and pipeline targets have received individual communication about upcoming events.
  • Highlight events to leadership giving officers to ensure managed prospects are aware of scheduled events.
  • Implement an event follow up method that results in higher levels of engagement, qualification meetings, and increased giving from constituents.
  • Identify opportunities to implement technology resources to scale donor outreach and work to implement these resources within the Office of Advancement, including sending Advancement communication and solicitations via our Almabase system.
  • Develop and implement strategies for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding donor prospects in assigned portfolio of approximately 50 prospects. This portfolio will be constructed based on the restricted fundraising initiatives that are ongoing and will be fluid as projects change.
  • Solicit a wide range of gifts from annual amounts up to $100,000.
  • With direction from the Office of the Vice President, support annual gift solicitation from annual donor prospects.
  • Understand Advancement fundraising priorities and fundraising priorities from other areas of the College in order to make a knowledgeable and persuasive presentation to donor prospects.
  • Maintain prospect tracking and regularly update the College’s records for each assigned constituent.
  • Excel in a holistic approach, which uses all resources of the College, including events, College leadership, Admission, Athletics, and Soll Center for Student Opportunity connections.
  • Support and staff College evening and weekend events and activities as assigned.
  • Perform other essential duties and tasks specific to the position as they are assigned.
