About The Position

The contract Development Officer, Regional Philanthropy & Partnerships is responsible for corporate and community-based fundraising in Atlantic Canada, including identifying, prospecting, cultivating, stewarding, and managing relationships with corporate, foundation and community partners/donors/sponsors, and municipal government. In this capacity, this position is also responsible for planning and implementing Kids Help Phone’s national and community fundraising events, as well as growing and diversifying revenue streams through partnership development, independent fundraising events, cause-marketing initiatives, employee engagement, and sponsorships, grant writing, and community and volunteer engagement.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience in community fundraising and partnership development.
  • Minimum of three years experience in corporate and community fundraising.
  • Experience working with community-based volunteers to organize events & fundraising initiatives.
  • Exercise a high level of discretion, diplomacy and independent judgement in handling confidential matters and interacting with senior employees, donors and volunteers.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Raiser’s Edge.
  • Exercise creativity, initiative, and sound judgment to advance Kids Help Phone’s mission and vision and increase effectiveness and results in the portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Raise funds through national and community events, corporate development, foundations and other community-based fundraising.
  • Plan, implement and manage a portfolio of Kids Help Phone national and community events as well as third-party fundraising events.
  • Cultivate, develop and manage corporate and community partnerships, including local businesses, foundations, local media, and municipal government.
  • Identify and build a robust prospective pipeline for revenue opportunities.
  • Contribute to the Regional Philanthropy & Partnerships team’s revenue targets as well as agreed upon individual cash and production targets.
  • Serve as a representative/spokesperson and/or confirm appropriate spokespeople for events/ corporate presentations.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of the community fundraising strategy and plan, including stewardship and management of BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk and community fundraising events.
  • Implement appropriate recognition and ongoing stewardship of donors and corporate partners.
  • Manage community-based Independent Fundraising Events by liaising with fundraisers to access tools, resources as well as ensuring adherence to proper processes and guidelines.
  • Planning and execution of local events.
  • Recruit, train, coach and support community volunteers and ensure proper onboarding and training are completed for all volunteers.
  • Set clear expectations, roles and responsibilities for committee members and event volunteers.
  • Ensure sufficient volunteer support for each event and appropriate stewardship following the event.
  • Work with Brand, Storytelling & Communications team to ensure that fundraising marketing materials for community-based fundraising initiatives/events, are aligned to KHP brand.
  • Maintain effective communications with stakeholders.
  • Support national events and initiatives by implementing national initiatives locally and partnering with local representatives to activate fundraising or brand awareness activities.
  • Identify and secure new a portfolio of corporate partners and donors to fundraise through corporate development (up to $100,000), foundation major gifts (up to $100,000), independent fundraising events, promotions, workplace giving, sponsorships, employee engagement, cause-marketing, and gifts-in-kind.
  • Collaborate with corporate partners to identify leadership and other volunteers to support fundraising initiatives.
  • Develop agreements with partners.
  • Provide impact reporting in accordance with donor agreements.
  • Contribute to the development of long-term strategic and annual plans.
  • Identify opportunities for pipeline development in alignment with the strategic plans.
  • Achieve individual annual goals and objectives.
  • Grow corporate revenue portfolio beyond events.
  • Manage expense and revenue budgets for assigned projects.
  • Ensure Raiser’s Edge database is maintained accurately and in a timely manner, for all assigned donors and prospects, including contact information, proposals and actions.
  • Manage and update assigned accounts accordingly.
  • Ensure all local filing, licensing and registration procedures are completed for all local fundraising.
  • Ensure compliance with fundraising requirements, privacy policies and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Prepare all cash, cheques and credit card donations from assigned donors for deposit, ensuring Kids Help Phone policy and procedures are followed and adhered to.
  • Prepare Briefing Notes for CEO and executives for meetings/events with relevant partners/donors in a timely manner.
  • Support Foundation team as needed.
  • Other administrative tasks as identified and required.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the team’s overall annual revenue targets, goals and objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of the team’s and or department’s annual plans.
  • Participate in/lead team/departmental weekly/monthly/quarterly meetings.
  • Support and or backstop team members as needed.
  • Disseminate relevant information in a timely manner.
