About The Position

Sistering is a multi-service agency that offers practical and emotional support to women and trans people facing challenging life circumstances, including poverty, homelessness, social isolation, mental health, and trauma histories. Their vision is a world where all women and trans people are valued, safe, supported, treated with dignity, and respected, with just and equitable opportunities to live life on their own terms. Their mission is to create a safe, non-judgmental space for women and trans people who are socially isolated, poor, homeless, or precariously housed, guided by principles of Anti-Oppression and Anti-Racism, working to change social conditions that endanger them. Sistering's programs include a low-barrier 24/7 Drop In, Housing and Case Support, Harm Reduction, Peer Outreach, On the Path to Employment and Spun Studio social enterprise, and individual and systemic advocacy. They operate on a trauma-informed and relationship-based model with a core harm reduction philosophy, responding to participants' needs where they are at to support them in reducing harm and increasing safety, recognizing the meaning and value in their lives. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Development Officer (Fundraising & Communications) to join our Fundraising and Communications team through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This role is ideal for someone passionate about social impact, donor engagement, and storytelling to support fundraising initiatives and community awareness.

Requirements

  • Interest or academic background in Fundraising, Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to craft compelling narratives
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Research and analytical skills for donor and funding prospecting
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the position
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with donor databases or CRM systems (an asset)
  • Experience with digital tools such as Mailchimp, WordPress, Canva, or Adobe Creative Suite

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and execution of fundraising campaigns and donor engagement initiatives
  • Assist with donor database management, including data entry, donor tracking, and reporting
  • Draft and edit donor communications such as newsletters, email campaigns, thank-you letters, and impact reports
  • Create compelling content for fundraising appeals across digital platforms (social media, website, email marketing tools such as Mailchimp)
  • Assist in coordinating fundraising events and community engagement activities
  • Conduct prospect research to identify potential donors, sponsors, and partners
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather stories, data, and impact metrics for fundraising materials
  • Support grant writing and reporting processes as needed
  • Design digital and print materials such as brochures, infographics, and campaign assets
  • Other Duties as Assigned

Benefits

  • $17.60/hour + 4% vacation pay (4% of gross income)
