About The Position

Jane Doe Inc. (JDI) is seeking a Development Manager to support the expansion and sustainability of their work. This is a new, full-time role on a small team of nine, reporting to the Deputy Director. The role is both outward-facing and operational, involving donor database management, stewardship, follow-ups, emails, and event support. The Development Manager will also act as a community ambassador for JDI, making smaller asks and following up with sponsors. While supporting major gift and strategy work, the role does not require closing major gifts or leading strategy. A key goal is to grow and diversify private support, as approximately 70-75% of JDI's budget comes from public funding. The private revenue streams include member dues, grants, an annual appeal, and a signature spring event. The individual donor base is around 500 people, with a small but generous group of major donors. This role is suitable for someone comfortable with both detailed operational tasks and engaging with new people. There is potential for growth into development writing and a more senior role over time.

Requirements

  • Deep commitment to JDI's mission and values, including an anti-oppression framework for ending gender-based violence.
  • Detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting, and work well both independently and on a team.
  • Community-centered, non-tokenizing approach to fundraising and understanding of movement and coalition-based work.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and best practices, with experience in nonprofit fundraising (formal or informal).
  • Active, bold, creative networker capable of starting, strengthening, and sustaining relationships with donors, corporations, and community partners.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to give a clear pitch for an organization.
  • Good judgment and understanding of boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and online design platforms such as Canva.
  • Ability to commute to Boston for in-person meetings and travel to community events in the Greater Boston area regularly; occasional statewide travel.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely.
  • Grace under pressure, welcoming of diverse perspectives, and a sense of humor.

  • Work with the Deputy Director and Finance team on gift receiving, processing, and acknowledgment.
  • Research prospects and help prioritize potential donors for engagement.
  • Support the signature event, Spring Into Action, including logistics, host committee staffing, sponsor outreach and stewardship, soliciting and stewarding in-kind auction donors, acknowledgments, and follow-up.
  • Support membership capacity building in fundraising, communications, event management, and external relations by co-facilitating the bimonthly Hot Topics convening.
  • Act as a warm, welcoming ambassador for JDI at events to expand visibility and build new relationships.
