About The Position

You’re someone who is fascinated by what inspires donors to give, and love building genuine relationships with them. You’re comfortable connecting with donors over the phone, at in-person events, and in one-on-one meetings bringing curiosity and creativity to every interaction. You’re at your best when you’re solving problems, managing development projects, and using our CRM as a key tool to guide your work. You appreciate efficient processes but also know that donor relationships aren’t a one‑size‑fits‑all. You navigate that nuance with confidence, warmth, and professionalism. You collaborate naturally across teams, partnering with the Director of Development to align mid‑level and Annual Fund strategies with organizational priorities. You work closely with Major Gifts, Communications, Volunteer Programs, and other program staff to elevate donor participation, visibility, and impact. As the Development Manager, you lead strategy to grow and deepen the Annual Fund’s mid‑level donor program while also providing essential management and operational leadership within the department. This includes supervising the Development Database Administrator and Gift Processing Specialist, ensuring data integrity, creating donor analytics tools, and refining processes that support department‑wide fundraising effectiveness. You also oversee our Direct Marketing program partnership, coordinating national and local alignment and deepening donor engagement through a structured and strategic program‑management lens.

Requirements

  • Have at least 5 years of progressive experience as a fundraiser, with demonstrated success managing and growing a mid‑level donor portfolio.(Or 3+ years of progressive experience and a relevant degree.)
  • Contribute to our culture and embody our organizational mission, vision, and values.
  • High/expert proficiency with RENXT or a comparable donor database software (CRM).
  • Have experience supervising or mentoring staff or volunteers.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to build strong donor relationships through confident outreach and use of compelling written and verbal storytelling to deepen engagement and strengthen philanthropic messaging.
  • Have demonstrated success maintaining accurate records and upholding data integrity while using the CRM to analyze giving behavior, identify upgrade indicators, and guide thoughtful, data‑informed donor movement strategies.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally across departments, supporting coordinated donor engagement and high‑quality handoffs.
  • Manage projects effectively, coordinating timelines and priorities while collaborating across teams to ensure a seamless donor experience.
  • Approach challenges with curiosity, problem‑solving, and strong judgment, applying creativity when navigating donor‑specific nuance.
  • Proficiency with office technology and information systems including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Any combination of formal education, paid work experience, unpaid/volunteer experience, and life experience will be considered.

  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency in RENXT, including building dashboards, segmenting donor groups, creating custom workflows, and reports that drive strategy.
  • Bring skills in budget management, forecasting, or revenue modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Mid -Level Donor Strategy and Portfolio Leadership (60%): Lead strategy and execution for the Annual Fund’s mid‑level donor portfolio, using a relationship‑driven approach supported by segmentation and tiering to strategically manage approximately 500 donors and deepen engagement where it is most meaningful. Conduct proactive outreach through email, mail, calls, meetings, personalized stewardship, and tailored engagement pathways. Apply analytical insight and donor knowledge to identify upgrade indicators and major gift readiness, qualify donors for major gift portfolios, and collaborate with Major Gift Officers to support intentional donor movement and high-quality handoffs.
  • Operational and Data Management (20%): Supervise the Development Database Administrator and Gift Processing Specialist, including coaching, workflow design, and performance support. Provide technical guidance on RENXT usage, reporting standards, and quality control while designing and maintaining workflows, dashboards and reporting tools that track donor movement and pipeline readiness.
  • Annual Fund Budget and Program Oversight (20%): Serve as the affiliate lead for the HFHI Direct Marketing partnership, managing coordination, reporting, and cross-functional communication to leverage donors without local solicitation. Oversee the budget for both Direct Marketing managed and locally solicited revenue streams, ensuring strategic alignment and high-impact donor engagement. Track and interpret performance data from national Direct Marketing campaigns. Develop and implement local engagement strategies, which increase participation in events, volunteer opportunities, and mission-related touchpoints.
