About The Position

Community College Preparatory Academy (CCPrep) is hiring a Development Manager in its Advocacy and Engagement department. Reporting to the Chief Advocacy Officer, this full-time, exempt role is based on campus in Washington, DC. The position builds a disciplined fundraising program that connects donors and partners to the impact of CCPrep’s students and programs. The salary band is $70,000–$100,000 annually. There are no standing direct reports, though the manager may direct grant writers, consultants, interns, vendors, or cross-functional project teams assigned to development initiatives. CCPrep creates an innovative and rigorous learning environment for adults who are under-credited or have aged out of traditional K–12 pathways. The Development Manager develops funding cases based on verified learner needs and program evidence, and supports resources for learning, credentials, transitions, and student support. The role works with learners, staff, funders, community partners, Finance, program leaders, and academic and data leaders. Learner participation in fundraising stories and planning must be voluntary and informed, with attention to dignity, privacy, and the freedom to decline. The manager oversees fundraising planning and administration across foundations, corporations, individuals, events, and public-private opportunities. The role maintains prospect and stewardship processes, prepares proposals and reports, manages donor and gift records, supports leadership with dashboards and recommendations, and coordinates institutional grant registrations and submissions. Proposals and reports should accurately represent program capacity, learning evidence, learner stories, consent, and data limitations. The work is primarily campus- and office-based, involving sustained computer use and frequent interaction with staff, students, vendors, and partners. Some evening, weekend, or off-site work may be required. Essential duties must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation. Employment may be contingent on satisfactory completion of job-related screening, as applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience, including project, program, or staff leadership.
  • Demonstrated skill with data, documentation, cross-functional communication, and service-oriented problem solving.
  • Ability to center adult learners, value their backgrounds and abilities, and respect their voice and choices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, follow through, raise risks early, use evidence, protect confidentiality, document work, collaborate across units, and use resources responsibly.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing and submitting government or foundation applications through grants-management systems such as SAM.gov, Grants.gov, EGMS, or comparable portals.
  • Graduate degree or recognized professional certification related to the function.
  • Experience in adult education, workforce development, public charter education, or a nonprofit setting.
  • Experience establishing practical controls, dashboards, and continuous-improvement routines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an annual fundraising plan covering foundations, corporations, individuals, events, and public-private opportunities.
  • Maintain a qualified prospect pipeline, cultivation plans, proposal calendar, and stewardship schedule.
  • Write persuasive and accurate cases for support, proposals, reports, and donor communications.
  • Partner with Finance and program leaders on budgets, restrictions, deliverables, and outcome evidence.
  • Maintain accurate constituent and gift records, acknowledgments, and relationship history.
  • Prepare fundraising dashboards and ethical recommendations for leadership.
  • Develop funding cases from verified learner needs and program evidence, prioritizing access, engagement, effective interventions, and pathways to individual education and career goals.
  • Include learner perspectives through voluntary, informed participation in fundraising stories and program planning while protecting dignity, privacy, and freedom to decline.
  • Agree with academic and data leaders on appropriate learning and service measures for proposals and reports, distinguishing demonstrated academic growth from participation and credential outcomes.
  • Engage learners, staff, funders, and community partners around priorities that advance academic growth and well-being, and develop shared leadership for approved partnership initiatives.
  • Align resource-development recommendations with documented learner needs and equitable access to human, material, digital, and fiscal supports.
  • Maintain institutional registrations, submission access, calendars, and records for SAM.gov, Grants.gov, EGMS, and other funder portals; coordinate program, finance, compliance, and executive inputs; and retain final applications, awards, reports, and confirmation records.
  • Keep pipeline activity, submissions, awards, renewals, stewardship milestones, donor records, and gift acknowledgments current and visible.
  • Ensure proposals and reports are accurate, timely, compliant, and aligned with documented program capacity.
  • Communicate revenue performance and forecast risks early.
  • Connect funding proposals to documented needs, feasible program actions, and appropriate measures agreed with program owners.
  • Ensure donor reporting accurately represents learning evidence and learner stories, with documented consent and data limitations.
  • Maintain partnership and funding records that demonstrate stakeholder participation, respectful learner representation, shared accountability, and resources directed to verified needs.
  • Keep grant registrations active, appropriately assign portal access, meet submission and reporting deadlines, and maintain institutional files with approved narratives, budgets, attachments, and confirmations.
