About The Position

Los Angeles Waterkeeper (LAW), a dynamic environmental nonprofit organization that fights for the health of the region's waters and communities, is seeking a highly organized development professional to join our team as Development & Events Coordinator. This part-time position provides immediate capacity in development operations and event coordination, supporting the Managing Director directly during an active period of organizational transition. The Development & Events Coordinator will handle the operational backbone of LAW's fundraising and events program — donor database management, gift processing, donor acknowledgments, and event logistics support — freeing the Managing Director to focus on donor cultivation and other major fundraising priorities. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role well suited to a development professional who is highly organized, self-directed, and can contribute meaningfully from day one.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of nonprofit development, fundraising operations, or event coordination experience
  • Hands-on experience with donor database systems; Bloomerang or similar CRM strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate fundraising or community events from planning through execution
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple concurrent workstreams
  • Comfortable working independently in a small team environment
  • Clear, professional written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite and project management tools; Asana a plus
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and LAW's environmental mission
  • Travel within LA County and access to reliable automobile required.
  • Able to work on a computer for extended periods; able to read a computer screen and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard.
  • Able to speak clearly on the phone and in person and be understood by others.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update LAW's donor database (Bloomerang), including gift entry, pledge tracking, and data hygiene.
  • Process donations and generate timely, accurate donor acknowledgment letters.
  • Support execution of LAW's donor stewardship activities and communications.
  • Assist with prospect research and development of donor and email lists.
  • Prepare development reports and summaries for the Managing Director.
  • Support administration of fundraising appeals and day-to-day development communications.
  • Support project management and logistics for LAW's key fundraising and programmatic events, working alongside LAW's longtime Event Planner (contractor).
  • Manage invitations and RSVP tracking for events.
  • Maintain event timelines, task lists and budgets in coordination with the Managing Director and Event Planner.
  • Conduct post-event follow-up including attendee capture, thank-you communications, and database updates.
  • Provide administrative support to the Managing Director on development-related tasks.
  • Assist with formatting and production of donor collateral including proposals, impact reports, and appeal materials.
  • Participate in relevant staff meetings and team activities.
