About The Position

Canopius is seeking a highly motivated Developer to support its technology roadmap and deliver solutions that help business areas achieve strategic and business goals. The role is part of a small, growing development team working in a flexible, iterative software delivery function that responds to internal user requirements and supports external market advantage.

The Developer contributes across the software development lifecycle, delivering and supporting full-stack solutions and maintaining existing applications, systems, and platforms. The role also involves working with business stakeholders, participating in technical design and governance discussions, and sharing good development practices with junior developers.

This is a hybrid role based in Manchester, with 2–3 days per week working from the Manchester office.

Requirements

• Solid understanding of JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3, including experience with component-based architecture, server-side rendering, and static site generation.
• Experience in modern front-end development, with hands-on experience using React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS to build responsive, accessible, and performant web applications.
• Experience integrating with Python-based backend services, including RESTful APIs and asynchronous data flows.
• Familiarity with API consumption patterns, including RESTful services, authentication strategies, and error handling.
• Background in .NET and .NET Core using C#, particularly building and integrating backend services and APIs.
• Good understanding of object-oriented programming principles, including SOLID and common design patterns.
• Experience with database design and development, particularly Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL.
• Commitment to clean code, coding standards, and industry best practices, with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and performance.

Nice To Haves

• Relevant experience with Azure DevOps, Pipelines, and continuous integration and deployment.
• Relevant experience with Azure cloud technologies.
• A BSc degree in a numerate discipline is preferred, such as Maths, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, or Engineering.
• Relevant experience in analysis, design, and implementation of systems and solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test high-quality software solutions.
• Contribute across the software development lifecycle, from analysis and design through deployment and ongoing support.
• Collaborate within agile teams to deliver full-stack technical solutions using appropriate tools and technologies.
• Maintain and enhance existing applications, systems, and platforms.
• Develop and maintain application frameworks of moderate to high complexity.
• Manage assigned tasks and deliverables in line with project schedules and agreed parameters.
• Analyse requirements to identify integration and testability considerations.
• Undertake other duties appropriate to the role as required.
• Work with business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Contribute to design reviews, architecture discussions, and governance forums.
• Share good practice with junior developers, particularly around maintainability, testing, and release readiness.
