Developer Relations

Chalk•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Chalk is building a data platform for machine learning applications, with tools for production AI that include a database engine, feature store, model serving, GPUs, sandboxes, model gateway, evaluations, traces, notebooks, and fine-tuning. Customers can run Chalk inside their own cloud. This is a senior, hands-on Developer Relations role focused on helping AI engineers, ML engineers, and developers discover Chalk and begin using it. The role owns the developer journey from initial awareness through first deployment and broader adoption, while setting the developer relations content and community roadmap and defining success measures. The person in this role will build with Chalk’s products, create technical content and demos, grow developer communities and audiences, and bring customer and community feedback into product and roadmap decisions.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience as an AI engineer, ML engineer, or developer, with real experience in developer relations or technical education.
  • A self-built following among engineers who read the candidate’s posts and watch their videos because the content is useful.
  • A body of technical content to share, especially video and live demos.
  • Experience building with Git-driven CI/CD, CLIs, notebook-to-production workflows, and coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor.
  • Strong Python skills and comfort with ML or agent infrastructure.
  • Experience growing a self-serve developer product, with signup and activation metrics that demonstrate impact.
  • Strong technical judgment about developer content and the ability to defend that judgment.
  • Experience meaningfully influencing a company’s product and roadmap using field insights.
  • A hands-on approach, including personally writing code, recording videos, and running demos.

Nice To Haves

  • Developer Relations experience at a developer infrastructure company, from early stage through scale.
  • Rust or C++ experience.
  • Experience serving models on GPUs or running agents in sandboxes.
  • Experience running a credits or incentive program that attracted developers who continued using the product.
  • Experience with bottom-up adoption leading to enterprise deals.
  • A personal YouTube channel or newsletter.

Responsibilities

  • Use Chalk products and build with them.
  • Create demos, sample applications, starter repositories, and walkthroughs that engineers can clone and run.
  • Own the developer funnel from first click to first deployment, including starter projects and signup incentives, and track developer retention.
  • Create technical videos, including demos, build-alongs, launch videos, and short clips, from scripting through editing.
  • Build Chalk’s developer community through company-hosted hackathons, conferences, and developer channels.
  • Attend developer meetups and share insights about what developers are building and why with the team.
  • Set the Developer Relations content and community roadmap and define success measures.
  • Run workshops and write technical explainers on topics including inference, GPUs, and agents.
  • Work with product, engineering, and documentation teams to ensure launches include examples that work on day one.
  • Identify signup and first-run friction, and advocate for improvements.
  • Partner with product marketing, marketing, sales, and forward-deployed teams to shape product launches for developers and help engineers bring Chalk into their companies.
  • Work with marketing and account management to understand market response and guide the Developer Relations content strategy.
  • Grow and use audiences on X, LinkedIn, YouTube, GitHub, Reddit, and Discord to amplify Chalk’s founders and engineers as well as the role holder’s own voice.
  • Represent customer and community feedback within Chalk to help improve products and the roadmap.
