Developer Relations/Advocate
About The Position
VAST Data is seeking a Developer Advocate to connect its technical teams with the user community and champion its technologies through workshops, content, and events. The role helps customers and prospects understand how VAST Data and its API-first platform can support data and AI initiatives. The position involves representing VAST Data at industry events, building and nurturing developer and customer communities, and creating technical content and learning experiences. The Developer Advocate also builds applications, reference architectures, proof-of-concepts, AI agents, and data pipelines, while demonstrating integrations and implementation best practices. The role advises sales engineers and customers, collaborates with product teams and partners, and turns customer feedback into product improvements and adoption opportunities. The position requires approximately 20% travel for conferences, customer visits, and workshops. VAST Data describes itself as a remote-first company and offers flexible work arrangements.
Requirements
- Background in software development, developer relations, advocacy, or technical evangelism.
- Proven experience with public speaking and presenting technical content.
- Strong technical writing skills and a portfolio of blog posts, documentation, or other technical content.
- Experience creating and delivering technical workshops or training programs.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and compellingly.
- Experience with modern AI frameworks and data processing technologies.
- Familiarity with distributed computing concepts and technologies.
- Software development experience with data engineering languages and tools such as Python, SQL, and vector databases.
Nice To Haves
- Understanding of modern advanced storage and compute architectures, particularly open-source architectures, and their impact on data pipeline performance.
- Knowledge of containerization, orchestration, and cloud-native technologies.
- Understanding of modern database technologies.
- Experience with VAST Data products or similar data platform technologies.
- Experience building and deploying data pipelines in production environments.
- Active social media presence in relevant technical communities.
- Previous experience working with enterprise customers in the data infrastructure space.
Responsibilities
- Represent VAST Data as a speaker at industry conferences, meetups, and events.
- Design and deliver technical workshops.
- Build relationships with developer communities, AI practitioners, and data engineers.
- Participate in and nurture the Cosmos community of customers and partners.
- Develop technical content, including tutorials, blog posts, videos, and documentation.
- Create workshop materials for in-person and virtual delivery.
- Build applications, reference architectures, and proof-of-concepts.
- Design and implement hands-on labs for data pipelines and AI workflows.
- Demonstrate best practices for data platform implementations.
- Build and showcase integrations with popular frameworks.
- Serve as a technical advisor to sales engineers and customers.
- Collaborate with product teams to convert customer feedback into product improvements and increased adoption.
- Develop proof-of-concept AI agents and data pipelines using VAST Data.
- Create educational content explaining how VAST Data supports AI development workflows.
- Collaborate with partners to showcase pipelines used by their AI agents.
- Track emerging AI technologies and frameworks to identify integration opportunities.
- Travel approximately 20% for conferences, customer visits, and workshops.
