Developer Experience Lead

OpenFX
Hybrid

About The Position

OpenFX is seeking a Developer Experience Lead to own the entire developer-facing surface of their platform, including documentation, integration support, and API governance. This foundational role is the first hire in this function and will be responsible for architecting the documentation ecosystem, defining processes for accuracy, and directly supporting clients integrating with their APIs. The goal is to create a knowledge system that simplifies complex FX liquidity and cross-border payment flows, making integration straightforward. Over time, this role will shape the Developer Experience discipline at OpenFX, influencing product decisions, integration strategy, and the overall developer journey.

Requirements

  • 5+ years owning a developer-facing API product or platform in B2B or infrastructure, with a track record of driving measurable adoption outcomes.
  • Direct client integration work, including diagnosing friction live with B2B or institutional clients and feeding it back into product changes.
  • Product instinct for API design, with strong opinions on endpoint design, parameter naming, authentication UX, error response formats, idempotency keys, and SDK ergonomics.
  • Engineering fluency, including reading code, understanding distributed system concepts, and participating in code reviews.
  • Contract-first governance experience, including implementing or enforcing OpenAPI workflows where the spec is treated as a product contract.
  • Financial services or fintech context, with experience working on payments, trading, or banking APIs.
  • Agent Experience instinct, including experience with MCP servers, agent-native SDKs, LLMs, evaluation suites for LLM-driven API consumption, or other agent-readable API patterns.

Nice To Haves

  • Interactive docs experience, such as code playgrounds, Try It Now, or in-browser sandboxes.
  • Multimedia documentation skills, including video tutorials, sequence diagrams, and architecture diagrams.
  • Developer advocacy or DevRel experience, including writing technical content for external developers, shipping sample apps, or representing a product at developer events.

Responsibilities

  • Drive API Product Adoption by instrumenting the funnel from API key activation to first API call to first transaction to expanded endpoint usage, setting targets and driving cross-functional work to achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Architect the Documentation System, owning the information architecture, taxonomy, versioning, layering, and presentation of information, and building it on docs-as-code infrastructure.
  • Own the OpenAPI Workflow, aligning the OpenAPI spec to production reality, implementing contract-first governance, and ensuring spec linters run in CI as merge blockers.
  • Drive Developer Advocacy by acting as the external voice of OpenFX within the developer community and the internal voice of the developer within OpenFX, writing technical content, building feedback loops, and representing OpenFX at developer-focused events.
  • Own Integration Triage by acting as the technical front door for client integration questions, triaging issues, fixing documentation gaps, and routing other issues to engineering with structured context, while building a repeatable onboarding playbook.

Benefits

  • Foundational Ownership: Define hiring standards, voice, and culture of Developer Experience; lead the team as it scales.
  • Greenfield Architecture: Build the DX product from the ground up, selecting the stack, taxonomy, and governance model.
  • Learn the inner workings of global finance (FX liquidity, settlement, treasury) and apply them to new payment stacks and legacy rails.
  • Opportunity to define the vocabulary of the industry and teach developers how to think about the future of money.
  • Expansion into Agent Experience: Lead the development of agent-native tooling, including MCP servers, SDKs/CLIs for human and autonomous consumption, semantically structured documentation, evaluation suites, and sandboxing patterns.
