About The Position

Under supervision, analyzes, designs, configures and/or develops new business processes and re-engineers existing processes within the context of commercially available or in-house developed information management systems; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Washoe County Technology Services Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. The current vacancy is in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program area. Applicants interested in being considered for future vacancies in any of the two (2) specialized areas must submit an application under this recruitment. These include Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Business Solutions & Integrations (BSI).

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer information systems, geographic information systems, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to work independently, diagnose and solve technical problems, and make customers their top priority.
  • Understanding of GIS and cartography fundamentals.
  • Understand web-based GIS fundamentals.
  • Experienced with cloud-based GIS tools or platforms such as ArcGIS Online.
  • Experienced with desktop-based GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro.
  • Understanding of or ability to write code in Python, Arcade, and SQL.
  • Demonstrated record of flexibility and creative problem-solving.
  • Self-starter who strives to improve skills and remain current in the application of Geographic Information Systems to local and regional government business processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills with customers and work team colleagues.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to perform solutions design and streamlining business processes.
  • Skills in the full development spectrum from requirements through production support in the areas of custom modules, conversion programs, interfaces, reports and forms.
  • Ability to participate in and lead software implementations, both custom and vended.
  • Ability to analyze business processes in order to identify efficiencies, automation opportunities, and services improvements.
  • Effective analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, designs, configures and/or develops new business processes.
  • Re-engineers existing processes within the context of commercially available or in-house developed information management systems.
  • Assist in the implementation of new functions and/or modules in the County’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (SAP).
  • Resolve enterprise system error messages or customer requests while supporting continuous improvement of enterprise business processes.
  • Apply foundational ERP development, configuration, and analytical skills in financials and/or HR.
  • Participate in the evaluation and leveraging emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, automation, and advanced analytics, to improve operational efficiency reporting, and customer services delivery.
  • Develop and maintain basic understanding of ERP configuration, master data, integrations, reporting, and transactions in ERP system(s), including the ability to read and understand code such as ABAP.
  • Assist the implementation of new functions and/or modules and resolve error messages or customer requests in department specific or county-wide solutions.
  • Apply foundational development, analytical, and process improvement skills to support business needs and technology initiatives.
  • Participate in evaluating and leveraging emerging technologies, including automation and AI-enabled tools, to improve efficiency, services delivery, and customer experience.

  • Eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.
  • Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
