About The Position

Join Knight Transportation as a Detention Biller. This role is crucial for increasing equipment utilization and collectible revenue by monitoring equipment activity, auditing records, and reviewing detention data. You will validate detention time, ensure drivers are paid appropriately, and initiate the billing process. Additionally, you will collaborate with Accounts Receivable for collections and provide recommendations to improve detention revenue. For Intermodal Detention Analysts, tracking and sending container dwell data is also a responsibility. The role requires maintaining a positive work atmosphere and proactively assisting others to meet company demands and objectives.

Requirements

  • 1+ years experience in billing and/or customer service and/or operations required.
  • Associates degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Report generation
  • Mathematical, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret user needs and translate into system requirements.
  • Ability to understand system data and to identify discrepancies
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Transportation industry experience preferred.
  • Previous knowledge of system analytics helpful

Responsibilities

  • Increase equipment utilization and collectible revenue by monitoring equipment activity on a daily basis.
  • Audit records pertaining to company equipment while in detention status.
  • Review detention data based on stop-off arrival and departure records, GPS location and other dispatch records.
  • Review customer/driver files, validate detention time taken and ensure drivers are paid appropriately.
  • Request authorization from customer based on contractual agreements or on equipment/driver(s) utilized by customer.
  • Initiate billing process for approved power and trailer detention time.
  • Inform payroll of detention payout amounts for drivers.
  • Provide recommendations to contracts and/or pricing regarding opportunities to increase detention revenue.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Receivable to resolve past due detention revenue and assist with collections.
  • For Intermodal Detention Analysts, track and send out container dwell data.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner which facilitates the success of business operations in order to meet company demands and expectations.
  • Proactively work to assist others in achieving the organization's objectives.
