About The Position

We are accepting applications for a Lateral Detective from motivated and enthusiastic certified Police Officers seeking a career with Milwaukie PD, one of the state's leading law enforcement agencies. Our Detectives serve on the Clackamas County Major Crimes Teams, work closely with partner agencies outside of Milwaukie, investigate all types of crimes, from property crimes to person crimes, and have the opportunity to participate in proactive operations and missions. While assigned as a Detective, Milwaukie Police Officers work a 4/10 schedule with weekends off, receive on-call pay and a take-home vehicle. The assignment is a 5-year rotation with an opportunity to reapply. Detectives receive a 7.5% incentive on top of the salary range listed in this post. The Milwaukie Police Department is a dedicated team comprised of 35 sworn officers and eight non-sworn staff. We serve a community of approximately 21,000 just south of Portland, along the banks of the Willamette River. Specialty assignments within our agency include Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Public Information Officer, K9 Handler, SWAT Team Member, Hostage Negotiations Team Member, School Resource Officer, Transit Police Officer, Motorcycle Traffic Enforcement Officer, and Criminal Reconstruction and Forensic Technician (CRAFT) Team Member. We have eight sergeants, four detectives, two captains, and a chief. We strive to provide excellent traditional police services combined with great customer service and community engagement.

Requirements

At least four years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer
Two years of experience as a detective
Worked as a full-time paid law enforcement officer within the past 12 months
Successfully completed a state-certified basic police training academy
Valid area driver's license and ability to meet the city's driving standards
High School Diploma or GED equivalency
Ability to read and write the English language
Have no disqualifying criminal history within the past seven years or any felony convictions
Be able to pass a background investigation/medical and psychological exam and drug screening
Have basic computer literacy and keyboard skills
Out-of-state and less-experienced law enforcement officers are eligible to apply through this posting.
Military Police, Federal Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Parole/Probation DO NOT QUALIFY as Lateral Police Officers.

5% for an Associate’s degree and/or possessing a DPSST Intermediate Police Officer Certificate.
10% incentive pay for a Bachelor’s degree and/or possessing a DPSST Advanced Police Officer Certificate.
Bilingual incentive pay, 5% of base pay
FTO incentive pay, 7.5% of base pay
Detective incentive, 7.5% of base pay
K-9 handler, 5% of base pay
School Resource Officer, 5% of base pay
Acting Sergeant incentive, 10% of base pay
Public Information Officer, 5% of base pay

Responsibilities

Follow up and investigate felony cases
Area expert in search and seizure
Collaborate with the Patrol unit to assist with investigations
Member of the Clackamas County Major Crime Teams
Write search warrants, court orders, and subpoenas
Rotating on-call responsibilities shared throughout the unit
Assist with retail theft missions and stolen vehicle missions throughout the region
