About The Position

The Desktop Support Specialist is responsible for installing, configuring, managing, and supporting desktops, portable computers, and related peripherals across a multi-platform network. The role helps ensure end-user productivity by diagnosing and resolving problems, evaluating products for compatibility, flexibility, and ease of use, and participating in the design of application options with mainframe applications. This position works onsite at UNC Health Lenoir in Kinston, North Carolina.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• With an associate's degree, no prior experience is required.
• With a high school diploma or GED, two years of relevant experience are required.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Highly responsive to internal customers.

Responsibilities

• Help ensure network security by enforcing password policies and installing virus protection software and encryption technology.
• Follow policies and procedures; create user profiles; and administer file and folder security and storage capacity.
• Manage desktop peripheral inventory and assist with asset management.
• Maintain accurate device-change records and update the inventory system when computers are installed or relocated.
• Evaluate products for compatibility, flexibility, and ease of use, including the design of application options with mainframe applications.
• Install and configure hardware and software applications.
• Provide customers with technical support and resolve hardware and software incidents.
• Provide initial training to familiarize customers with system operation.
• Perform desktop moves in a timely manner based on user and organizational needs.
