About The Position

BIW is hiring Desktop Publishers at the following levels: 2nd Class Designer: $29.34/Hr. - $31.51/Hr. 3rd Class Designer: $26.75/Hr. - $28.39/Hr. The successful candidate will join the Technical Publications group as part of BIW’s Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) organization as a Desktop Publisher. The primary focus of this group is the development and submittal of the US Navy Technical Manual products required by our contracts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED required.
  • This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, and Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) or Extensible Markup Language (XML) files or an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Arts & Design is required.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral, are required.
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Above average familiarity with Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be detail orientated, well organized, and able to strictly adhere to product schedules.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience working with AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, and Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) or Extensible Markup Language (XML) files is required for 2nd Class.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of practical experience working with AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and/or Extensible Markup Language (XML) files, OR Associates Degree in Graphic Arts & Design is required for 3rd Class.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review the format of US Navy technical manual products to ensure adherence to contract requirements.
  • Utilize desktop publishing software to produce new and revised US Navy technical manuals.
  • Prepare and submit Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) data items.
