About The Position

The Desktop Administrator is a hands-on Information Technology (IT) role. The position receives general direction from the Director, IT Operations and is expected to operate and deliver on projects with a high level of autonomy.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
  • Three (3) years’ experience in the support, maintenance, and design of academic information systems equipment or similar deployments
  • Excellent working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office suite of products, networking topologies, hardware, software, and design
  • Experience working with the pedagogical needs of faculty in computer labs, smart classrooms, and remote access to data environment
  • Work experience in a multifaceted office with several major applications
  • Ability and willingness to interface with all members of the institution, accept suggestions, and be responsive to the needs of the organization.
  • An Associate degree is equivalent to 18 months of work experience, whereas a Bachelor's degree is equivalent to 4 years, and a Master's degree is equivalent to 10 years.

Responsibilities

  • Interfaces and communicates with department chairpersons and faculty to gather and disseminate information related to academic computer labs and related technology.
  • Coordinates the knowledge transfer to and from faculty, chairpersons, deans, and middle management to IT personnel to ensure a stable and serviceable environment in computer labs.
  • Provides coordination and training to faculty in the utilization and design of computer labs to better enable use and technical support by the IT Department.
  • Provides technical expertise to academic departments in order to assess feasibility and establish requirements for a broad range of academic computer applications.
  • Defines and prepares specifications for new lab applications or changes to existing environments, performing the indicated analysis of the impact upon other modules or applications; assists with formation of short-term and long-term academic computing strategic plans.
  • Develops and implements new desktop image environments and/or makes modifications to existing environments to comply with user specifications.
  • Interacts with external software and hardware vendors; defines and resolves technical and procedural problems; and adapts and maintains applications and systems.
  • Provides high-level and complex technical support to the IT Service Desk on escalated issues requiring elevated privileges or access to resolution based on expertise and elevated system rights.
  • Provides telecommunications administration, assistance and troubleshooting relating to VoIP devices and legacy analog devices.
  • Maintains an awareness of emerging technological and software trends and developments in academic computing and in the higher education sector.
  • Provides environmental maintenance on servers, desktops and applications relating to security and operational updating
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, and are subject to change or cancellation.
  • Further, they are contingent on the employee completing an initial probationary work period and receiving approval from his or her immediate supervisor, and may be re-evaluated after six (6) months.
