The role is based in the Los Angeles bureau and requires an in-office presence of three days per week. The position also requires working some weekend and evening shifts. The ideal candidate is an experienced journalist adept at crafting and honing stories across geographies, industries, and markets, including scoops, breaking news, quick-turn analyses, and insights. The role demands an understanding of Reuters' diverse audience, including financial and professional clients, major media organizations, and publishers, with a willingness to reach new readers. This position is for individuals ready to experiment with new story formats and tools, functioning not only as a copy editor but also as a content curator, integrating video, pictures, graphics, and text stories into comprehensive packages. Crafting sharp headlines, ledes, and nut grafs is essential, as is identifying gaps in news coverage and collaborating with news editors to address them. The role requires precision in writing, the ability to articulate complex ideas for both specialist and general audiences, and a commitment to upholding Reuters’ high standards for accuracy, brevity, clarity, fair comment, impartiality, and sourcing. The Desk Editor will work with reporters globally to produce distinctive journalism in compelling formats.
