About The Position

The Designer position at Jim Myers & Sons, Inc. (JMS) is a vital member of the Bio-HANDLING Team and is a diverse high-paced position with primary responsibilities including project timing and quality, designing mechanical equipment with high attention to detail, adhering to project schedules and specifications, assisting Project Managers with submittal packages, creating detailed fabrication level drawing packages, communicating with internal customers, working effectively with project team members on multiple projects, assisting with technical interfaces, working with shop fabrication, machining and assembly, possessing strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and participating on Product Teams to improve JMS products. Some travel to plant sites is required for field measurements, installation support, and troubleshooting. The role requires adherence to all JMS, Inc. policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years (6,000+ hours) of experience in 3D modeling with SolidWorks (preferred)
  • Expert level 3D designer and/or Certified SolidWorks Professional preferred
  • High level of knowledge/experience with applying drafting standards to fabrication level drawings
  • 3 years of experience with the design of mechanical equipment, weldments and assemblies
  • 2 years of experience with 2D design and detailing with AutoCAD a plus
  • Strong background in the design of mechanical equipment with high attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to negotiate positive outcomes
  • Experience with power transmission equipment including motors, gearboxes, chain drives, shafts & bearings
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook
  • Proficiency with completing design calculations
  • Desire to learn and to continue developing knowledge and skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States. We do not offer visa sponsorship for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of fabrication processes such as bending, punching, welding, machining, etc.
  • Experience with the municipal water and wastewater industry
  • Experience with material handling systems (conveyors and bulk storage)
  • Experience with electrical power, instrumentation and controls

Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for project timing and quality including project deliverables
  • Design mechanical equipment with high attention to detail
  • Adhere to project schedule and specifications to meet the projects time objectives and milestones
  • Assist Project Managers in preparation of submittal packages
  • Create detailed fabrication level drawing packages
  • Proper communication with internal customers in sales, engineering, manufacturing and customer service
  • Ability to work effectively & efficiently with project team members on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Assist in interface on technical issues with manufacturing, sourcing, and field installation
  • Work with shop fabrication, machining and assembly of the equipment
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as logical thought process
  • Some travel to plant sites required for field measurements, installation support and troubleshooting
  • Participate on Product Teams to help improve JMS products
  • Follow all JMS, Inc. policies and procedures
