Designer-Contract

Newton Research•Needham, MA
•$90 - $115•Remote

About The Position

Newton Research is seeking a remote contract designer to shape its brand across sales decks, trade show booths, email, landing pages, and merchandise. The designer will also build the foundation for consistent company-wide design: a design system written in markdown that AI design tools can read and apply. The role suits a designer who is enthusiastic about AI and uses it for inspiration, image generation, and rapid iteration. The designer will own projects end-to-end, work closely with marketing and go-to-market teams, and help influence how an AI-native company approaches marketing design as it scales. This is a part-time contract engagement of 20 or more hours per week for three months, with an option to extend. It is remote. The stated rate is $90–$115 per hour, based on experience; the posting also lists a base salary range of $60,000–$80,000.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating range across brand, marketing, and sales materials.
  • Hands-on experience using AI in design work, including image generation, AI-assisted ideation, and AI design tools such as Claude Design; applicants should share examples.
  • Experience building or maintaining design systems or brand guidelines, and comfort writing them in markdown or another structured, text-based format.
  • Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience preparing files for print production, including event graphics, signage, and merchandise.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote-first environment with minimal hand-holding.
  • Strong communication skills, including articulating design decisions, incorporating feedback, and teaching others to use built systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in B2B SaaS, adtech, or marketing technology.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Newton's design system as structured markdown files covering brand principles, color, typography, layout, imagery, components, and usage rules for AI design tools such as Claude Design.
  • Create templates and guidelines so marketers, sellers, and other non-designers can produce on-brand decks, one-pagers, and visuals.
  • Test the design system across tools and use cases, identify brand inconsistencies in generated outputs, and refine the source files.
  • Document workflows and coach the team on using AI design tools to achieve high-quality results.
  • Design sales enablement materials, including pitch decks, one-pagers, case studies, battle cards, and proposal templates.
  • Create trade show and event branding, including booth graphics, signage, banners, and printed collateral.
  • Design branded merchandise and swag.
  • Design email templates and landing pages in collaboration with the marketing team.
  • Use AI tools for concepting, moodboards, and image generation to move quickly from brief to polished output.
  • Partner with marketing, growth, and go-to-market teams to translate briefs into polished, on-brand visuals.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects and deliver work on deadline without sacrificing quality.
  • Give and receive feedback constructively and iterate quickly based on stakeholder input.
