Requirements

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Design or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least seven years of Mechanical Design experience.
  • Experience designing complete systems for complex components or tooling, subsystems, and concept models.
  • Specific project experience mentoring and training lower-level designers.
  • Advanced visual acuity and design techniques to produce complete and workable 3D layouts for new designs.
  • Ability to calculate dimensions and specify allowances and tolerances according to standard practices.
  • Advanced mathematics skills, including trigonometry, and in-depth understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and gauging.
  • Ability to provide input and assist in planning design timelines and project schedules, and plan work effectively to meet schedules using system-level thinking.
  • Advanced knowledge of the physical properties of materials, property enhancers, and relative material costs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of standards and applications in an engineering environment.
  • Ability to own all design aspects of a project and provide leadership to other designers.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes and assembly techniques.
