About The Position

The Toro Company is seeking a Designer I to meet customer requirements and schedules. This role assists in the execution of all documentation, release, production, and service follow-up of assigned new or revised products. The Designer I will create designs and design layouts for new product concepts, new products, or improvements to existing products, ensuring engineering design meets market, safety, quality, performance, reliability, durability, and regulatory requirements. The position involves preparing design layouts, coordinating designs with team members, and handling design details such as CAD modeling, material selection, preliminary FEA, and drawing reviews including GD&T. The role requires securing assistance from internal specialists and consultants, using the best available technology, and conducting team design reviews. The Designer I is responsible for ensuring designs are manufacturable (DFMA), maintaining accurate parts lists in CAD (Creo) and SAP, and coordinating the release of parts for production. Collaboration with Design Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Test Engineers, and vendors is essential to meet customer requirements and select components. The Designer I will also assist manufacturing/assembly during builds, prepare prototypes, and document potential patentable ideas. The full job description will be provided to the final candidate.

Requirements

  • BD/BS, Engineering related field.
  • Designer I Two-year degree: 3-5 years of experience.
  • Four-year degree: 1-3 years of experience.
  • CAD, SolidWorks.
  • Manufacturing environment experience.
  • MRP/ERP.
  • Problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Create designs and design layouts for new product concepts, new products or improvements to existing products.
  • Ensure engineering design for new products and improved products meet market, safety, quality, performance, reliability, durability, and regulatory requirements of the customer.
  • Prepare design layouts and coordinate designs with others assigned to the project to ensure integration of the design.
  • Responsible for design details such as design concepts, CAD modeling, layouts, material selection, preliminary FEA, and drawing reviews including GD&T.
  • Secure assistance from consultants or internal specialists i.e. CAE analysis support engineers (CFD, FEA, NVH), manufacturing engineers, and vendor experts.
  • Use the best technology available in all areas of design.
  • Conduct team design reviews, safety reviews and cost and manufacturing reviews.
  • Ensure that all parts designed can be manufactured (DFMA).
  • Maintain accurate lists of parts created in CAD (Creo) and SAP.
  • Coordinate or help to coordinate the release of parts for production whether for prototypes or final production.
  • Work with Design Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Test Engineers and others to determine changes which are needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Work with vendors to identify and select vendor supplied components to integrate into designs.
  • Keep supervisor informed of project status and issues that may require assistance.
  • Assist manufacturing/assembly during prototype, pilot, and production builds at plant locations.
  • Prepare prototypes to ensure needs are met for sales, marketing, manuals, packaging, service, manufacturing and QC reference.
  • Create and document potential patentable ideas.
