About The Position

This Designer 4 position is for a team leadership role within the New Construction Carrier Foundation Group. The designer will be expected to manage workloads and assign work across multiple projects; mentoring and teaching is required; problem solving designs; checking multiple design products; representing the department in meetings; providing weekly statuses; working with the waterfront and vendors. The Role Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Requirements

Experience in scheduling assignments
Experience tracking and reporting metrics
Design proficiency in welds, structural foundations, lifting pads, and hangers
Proficiency in NX/TC software
Proficiency in AutoCAD (occasionally)
Ability to work in a high-paced environment
Ability to multi-task with outstanding results ensuring quality and meeting schedule demands
Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
NNS Apprentice School graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
