About The Position

This is a third-level position, mostly likely promoted from within, requiring modular home drafting experience and proficiency with VectorWorks (or the CAD software being used by employer) and a substantially-developed knowledge of construction. Candidates for this position must have at least six (6) months as a Drafter / CAD Designer II to be eligible. This position acts as a team leader and directs the work of less-experienced technicians.

Requirements

  • All qualifications of CAD Designer II
  • A minimum of six (6) months experience as CAD Designer II, as well as an overall mastery of each of its job responsibilities.
  • Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with VectorWorks (or the CAD software being used by employer)
  • Substantially-developed knowledge of construction
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Designing trusses necessary for an individual project/build independently, accurately and effectively
  • Producing construction/production drawings to be used by the factory, including, but not limited to, the following: Fastener calculations for applicable forces (shear extraction); Floor framing drawings; Stair geometry and stair and railing details; Truss layouts; Production details (dormers, special ties, high wind details, etc.)
  • Capably and independently navigate and select structural connectors
  • Consult with junior drafters needing guidance or assistance with learning job responsibilities
  • Review and markup drawings for accuracy, completeness, etc.
  • Fluently navigate CabinetVision software to be able to prepare cabinet shop drawings
