About The Position

Samueli Academy is a non-profit 7-12 public charter school in Santa Ana, CA. Our mission is to ignite the passion within all students to reach their greatest potential through a nurturing and innovative learning environment. Samueli Academy offers youth an innovative and student-centered choice for their education. The Design teacher plays a critical role in supporting student achievement by facilitating high quality learning opportunities for students in the Design Pathway. Instruction features a 1:1 Chromebook program and a classroom-based MacBook lab, and is centered on Project-Based Learning, a collaborative, respectful culture, and an emphasis on 21st century skills. Samueli Academy teachers must have the ability to raise student achievement for a wide range of learners. This teacher will collaborate with other teachers, community partners, and caregivers, integrating curricula whenever possible to create transformative learning experiences.

Requirements

  • Must hold a CTE Credential (or certification if teaching a specialized subject) authorizing teaching in assigned classroom/subject matter and the equivalent of CLAD Certification.
  • Project-based learning experience preferred.
  • Experience in product design/development (User Interface, User Experience, prototyping/CAD, product collateral) preferred
  • Working knowledge of graphics design/software tools such as Photoshop, website design, video editing, general computer programming preferred
  • Ability to teach and assess your content via Samueli Academy’s School-Wide Learning Outcomes: Oral Communication, Written Communication, Agency and Collaboration.
  • Experience in engaging students in hands-on learning while maintaining academic rigor.
  • Ability to teach diverse learners and well-versed in instructional strategies for serving a wide range of students.
  • Experienced in integrating technology into teaching and can support student learning using technology.
  • Collaborative, skilled in interdisciplinary planning, and able to work well with a wide range of constituents (colleagues, parents, students, community members, etc.).
  • Must have knowledge of the curriculum appropriate to the grade level/position, knowledge of instructional skills, classroom management skills, communication skills, and job responsibility.
  • Possess a valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Position requires DMV clearance.
  • Pre-employment screenings include criminal background check, FBI/DOJ fingerprinting, TB test, drug screen, and previous employment verification.

Responsibilities

  • Using advanced technology skills in the classroom, this teacher’s instructional practices should focus on raising achievement for a wide range of learners.
  • Must be a creative, collaborative, flexible teacher willing to innovate and implement Problem or Project-Based Learning.
  • Have a willingness to explore team-teaching with other teachers, to collaborate with higher education faculty, and to commit to working on collaborative teams.
  • Have a thorough understanding and development of formative and summative assessment practices.
  • All teachers at Samueli Academy will advise students in intra-class relations and in personal learning plan development through a weekly advisory program
  • Work closely with industry partners to guide instruction, mentor and provide meaningful feedback to student.
  • Additional duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
