About The Position

Samueli Academy is a non-profit 7-12 public charter school in Santa Ana, CA, with a mission to ignite student passion and foster potential through a nurturing and innovative learning environment. The Design Teacher plays a critical role in supporting student achievement by facilitating high-quality learning opportunities within the Design Pathway. This position utilizes a 1:1 Chromebook program and a classroom-based MacBook lab, emphasizing Project-Based Learning, a collaborative culture, and 21st-century skills. The ideal candidate must be able to raise student achievement for a diverse range of learners and collaborate effectively with colleagues, community partners, and caregivers to create transformative learning experiences through curriculum integration.

Requirements

  • Hold a CTE Credential (or certification if teaching a specialized subject) authorizing teaching in the assigned classroom/subject matter.
  • Possess the equivalent of CLAD Certification.
  • Demonstrate ability to teach and assess content via Samueli Academy’s School-Wide Learning Outcomes: Oral Communication, Written Communication, Agency and Collaboration.
  • Engage students in hands-on learning while maintaining academic rigor.
  • Teach diverse learners and be well-versed in instructional strategies for serving a wide range of students.
  • Integrate technology into teaching and support student learning using technology.
  • Be collaborative, skilled in interdisciplinary planning, and able to work well with a wide range of constituents (colleagues, parents, students, community members, etc.).
  • Possess knowledge of the curriculum appropriate to the grade level/position.
  • Possess knowledge of instructional skills, classroom management skills, communication skills, and job responsibility.
  • Possess a valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must pass DMV clearance.
  • Must pass pre-employment screenings including criminal background check, FBI/DOJ fingerprinting, TB test, drug screen, and previous employment verification.
  • Provide a complete and accurate record of all employment with Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), school districts, or other educational institutions.
  • Submit a cover letter addressing experience coaching adults, leading professional development to increase student outcomes, and teaching using Project/Problem Based Learning, and assessing content via School-Wide Learning Outcomes.
  • Submit a resume which clearly describes education and employment background, including dates of employment.
  • Submit two current letters of recommendation.
  • Submit a copy of Clear or Preliminary Single Subject Credential or appropriate Certificate.
  • Submit a copy of English Learner Authorization (CLAD or equivalent).
  • Submit a copy of BA degree and Transcripts.

Nice To Haves

  • Project-based learning experience preferred.
  • Experience in product design/development (User Interface, User Experience, prototyping/CAD, product collateral) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of graphics design/software tools such as Photoshop, website design, video editing, general computer programming preferred.

  • Raise student achievement for a wide range of learners using advanced technology skills and instructional practices.
  • Implement Problem or Project-Based Learning.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, potentially through team-teaching.
  • Collaborate with higher education faculty.
  • Commit to working on collaborative teams.
  • Develop and implement formative and summative assessment practices.
  • Advise students in intra-class relations and personal learning plan development through a weekly advisory program.
  • Work closely with industry partners to guide instruction, mentor students, and provide meaningful feedback.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.
