Design Release Engineer, Modular R&D
About The Position
The Modular team designs and builds factory-produced, serialized data center modules that ship as manufactured products, not construction projects. The Design Release Engineer will own the release process from engineering to production, ensuring drawings, BOMs, and specs are complete, approved, and released to manufacturing at the right revision, every time. This role involves running configuration and change management, administering ECOs and ECNs, controlling revision history, and managing changes across in-flight units, inventory, and supplier orders. The engineer will maintain BOM integrity across systems, ensuring engineering and manufacturing BOMs are accurate and integrated with PLM, ERP, and MES systems. They will also gate release readiness by performing drawing checks, verifying tolerance and spec completeness, flagging long-lead procurement items, and confirming DFM feedback from the fab floor has been incorporated. Additionally, the role requires driving release communication across design, supply chain, quality, and production to ensure procurement and the shop floor are always working with the correct revisions.
Requirements
- Owned release or configuration management for manufactured hardware: modules, vehicles, machinery, or similar serialized products.
- Administered ECOs across live production and know how to disposition a change across units already in build, sitting in inventory, and already shipped, including deciding effectivity and living with the consequences.
- Reconciled BOMs: as-designed, as-built, and as-maintained stay in sync.
- Caught immature releases before the floor does: incomplete drawings, missing tolerances, and unspecified requirements don't get past you.
- Untangled an as-designed vs. as-built mess at a company scaling faster than its release discipline, and know exactly what breaks when that discipline is missing.
- Worked across disciplines instead of throwing problems over walls: design, supply chain, quality, and production all trust your revision state because you keep them informed before it matters.
Nice To Haves
- Hands-on with PLM platforms (Arena, Teamcenter, Windchill)
- Hands-on with ERP and MES integration (NetSuite, SAP, or similar)
- Familiarity with drawing standards (ASME Y14.5)
- A manufacturing or quality engineering background
Responsibilities

- Keep BOM integrity across systems: engineering and manufacturing BOMs accurate, the PLM system of record syncing cleanly to ERP and MES, and discrepancies between as-designed, as-built, and as-maintained resolved rather than logged.
- Gate release readiness: drawing checks, tolerance and spec completeness, long-lead procurement flags, and DFM feedback from the fab floor confirmed incorporated before anything releases.
- Drive release communication across design, supply chain, quality, and production: publish release schedules and change impacts so procurement and the shop floor never build to stale revisions.
