This role is categorized as hybrid. The selected candidate will be expected to work on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week, or as otherwise determined by the hiring leader. About the Role: At General Motors, we’re redefining the future of mobility—and that starts with how we design and engineer our vehicles. We are seeking motivated, forward-thinking Design Release Engineers to help shape the next generation of vehicle structures. In this role, you’ll have end-to-end ownership of components within Body/Chassis structures, driving design, development, validation, and launch across the full vehicle lifecycle. You’ll work on highly visible programs, partnering cross-functionally to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions that meet performance, cost, and timing targets. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of engineering experience in product development or design

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Body/Chassis structure components or related systems
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, GD&T, and Design for Six Sigma methodologies
  • Familiarity with advanced materials (e.g., high-strength steel, alloys) and manufacturing processes
  • Understanding of FMVSS crash and regulatory requirements
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills

Responsibilities

  • Own the design release and execution of body/chassis structure components from concept through production
  • Lead technical development for components and/or new technologies within vehicle programs
  • Drive engineering decisions by balancing performance, cost, weight, and timing
  • Conduct design analysis and validate designs through testing and development activities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design studio, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and suppliers
  • Support prototype builds, vehicle integration, and production launch activities
  • Identify and implement product improvements and cost reduction opportunities
  • Ensure components meet GM technical standards, safety requirements, and quality expectations
  • Communicate complex technical topics clearly to leadership and stakeholders
