About The Position

The Driveline Disconnects Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and validating driveline systems and components. The role requires knowledge of disconnect technologies and architectures across driveline and axle products, including electrified products. Examples include front axle disconnects, integrated differential disconnects, disconnects integrated to output shafts, bolt-on gear-reducer disconnects, and wheel-end disconnect systems. The engineer supports multiple programs and works to deliver balanced, integrated, and validated systems that meet functionality, performance, and durability requirements. The role also optimizes designs and contributes innovative solutions to improve performance and reliability, while coordinating with internal stakeholder teams and suppliers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related degree field.
  • At least 5 years of automotive engineering experience focused on driveline systems.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve technical issues and optimize designs.
  • Strong knowledge of driveline components and systems, including transfer cases, wheel-end disconnects, front axle disconnects, gear reducers, and actuators.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to adapt to multiple programs; proactive and results-driven.
  • Understanding of root cause analysis tools such as fishbone analysis, Is-Is Not, 3L5Y, and Red X.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Working-level experience decomposing intended functions into requirements.
  • Knowledge of CAE/CFD to collaborate with virtual analysis teams.
  • Experience with assembly and computer-aided design tools such as NX or CATIA.
  • Experience with Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience with Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R).
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Action-oriented, comfortable dealing with ambiguity, customer-focused, and skilled in problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of driveline systems and components, including transfer-case shift systems, wheel-end disconnects, front axle disconnects, gears, differential lockers, ELDs, and actuators.
  • Collaborate with CAE, NVH, durability, vehicle dynamics, packaging, and manufacturing teams to ensure integration and performance.
  • Develop and execute validation plans, including component, system bench, and vehicle testing, to verify driveline system performance and durability.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues using root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques.
  • Drive supplier design-selection approvals through appropriate assessments and adherence to engineering best practices.
  • Create, implement, and manage engineering best practices, including core DFMEA and DVP documents for driveline systems.
  • Seek opportunities to improve designs, processes, and products through innovative solutions and best practices.
  • Generate detailed system and subsystem technical specifications (SSTS/TTS), manage those documents, and ensure requirements align with the supplier base.
  • Mentor and provide technical direction to other driveline engineers.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce total warranty costs and propose technical solutions.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, design reviews, and project updates to stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date with driveline technology advancements and incorporate innovative solutions into product designs.
