Design Release Engineer - HVAC/Cooling

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

As an Automotive Cooling System Design and Release Engineer, you will design, develop, validate, and release advanced cooling components for gas and electrified vehicles. Components include hose and tube assemblies, electric coolant heaters, valves, pumps, air induction system components, cooling module assemblies, and transmission oil coolers. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing suppliers, and applying technical expertise to support vehicle performance and efficiency. The engineer leads component development, validation, and release for electrified vehicles; ensures components meet performance, safety, and quality standards; manages DVP&R and DFMEA documentation; and coordinates activities to achieve program timing milestones. The role applies APQP and DFSS methodologies and uses CAE tools and design software to analyze, optimize, visualize, and communicate component designs. It also includes supplier relationship management and collaboration with manufacturing, testing, and quality teams to integrate components into the vehicle architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of automotive engineering experience focused on designing and releasing cooling system components for electrified vehicles.
  • Strong understanding of cooling system components, including radiators, condensers, fans, pumps, valves, heaters, and associated hardware.
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5 and/or Unigraphics NX for component design and modeling.
  • Experience with Vis Mockup and TeamCenter for collaborative design and visualization.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, validation, and release of cooling components for electrified vehicles, including cooling module assemblies, transmission oil coolers, high- and low-pressure hose and tube assemblies, electric coolant heaters, valves, pumps, and air induction system components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cooling components meet performance, safety, and quality standards and contribute to overall vehicle objectives.
  • Create, maintain, and manage Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) and Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) documents.
  • Coordinate tasks, resources, and activities to achieve program timing milestones.
  • Apply Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) principles to guide development and support robust product launches.
  • Use Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools to conduct simulations and analyses and optimize component designs.
  • Use CATIA V5, Unigraphics NX, Vis Mockup, and TeamCenter to design, visualize, and communicate component designs.
  • Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies to improve component quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Manage supplier relationships and ensure suppliers align with project goals and deliver high-quality components.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, testing, and quality teams to integrate cooling components into the vehicle architecture.
