Design Release Engineer - HVAC/Cooling

Stellantis•Auburn Hills, MI

About The Position

As an Automotive Cooling System Design and Release Engineer, you will design, develop, validate, and release advanced cooling components for gas and electrified vehicles. Components include cooling module assemblies, transmission oil coolers, high- and low-pressure hose and tube assemblies, electric coolant heaters, valves, pumps, and air induction system components. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage suppliers, and apply technical expertise to support vehicle performance, efficiency, safety, and quality. The role also involves coordinating program milestones, applying APQP and DFSS methods, using CAE tools for simulation and analysis, and working with manufacturing, testing, and quality teams to integrate components into vehicle architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related degree field.
  • At least 5 years of automotive engineering experience, focused on designing and releasing cooling system components for electrified vehicles.
  • Strong understanding of cooling system components, including radiators, condensers, fans, pumps, valves, heaters, and associated hardware.
  • Proficiency in CATIA V5 and/or Unigraphics NX for component design and modeling.
  • Experience with Vis Mockup and TeamCenter for collaborative design and visualization.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development, validation, and release of cooling components for electrified vehicles.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure components meet performance, safety, and quality standards and support overall vehicle objectives.
  • Create, maintain, and manage Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) and Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) documents.
  • Coordinate tasks, resources, and activities to achieve program timing milestones.
  • Apply Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) principles to guide development and support robust product launches.
  • Use Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools to conduct simulations and analyses and optimize component designs.
  • Use CATIA V5, Unigraphics NX, Vis Mockup, and TeamCenter to design, visualize, and communicate component designs.
  • Apply Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies to improve component quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Manage supplier relationships and align suppliers with project goals and quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, testing, and quality teams to integrate cooling components into vehicle architecture.
