A Static Sealing D&R Engineer at Ford Motor Company designs and launches vehicle body sealing and adhesive systems. They are responsible for injection molded, extruded, and die cut parts that expand when heat activated by paint shop ovens to seal various joints within a sheet metal body as well as the materials and pathing for bulk sealer, adhesive, and other materials applied by dispensing systems in the body/paint shops. The role combines systems design, supplier leadership, validation, and manufacturing collaboration. A typical Static Sealing D&R Engineer will be responsible for a single vehicle line from initial design through launch with a typical design cycle spanning 2-4 years. During up front design the engineer will utilize proactive efforts to ensure that the vehicle will be water and air-tight under all variation conditions while working with several sheet metal team members, the Body Construction team, Paint team, and program team. During the prototype phase the engineer will validate their design and provide solutions to concerns prior to launch. During launch the engineer will ensure production robustness of the sealing systems and quickly resolve any deficiencies. The Static Sealing D&R Engineer will ultimately understand the sheet metal structure and assembly processes of a given vehicle line as well as anyone on the team, offering unique and rewarding ownership of the vehicle's delivery. An ideal candidate for this role is someone who is detail oriented, proactive, tough, and a great communicator. The engineer in this role should enjoy brainstorming and following thru to solve or prevent complex problems with efficient solutions.
