About The Position

Ball State University Libraries is searching for an energetic and detail-oriented person to join our committed and highly engaged Archives and Special Collections team, responsible for analyzing, organizing, arranging, and creating collection-level and item-level description for archival materials, including architectural and design drawings, photographs, objects, ephemera, and other records, according to archival best practices and professional and national standards. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in library science, records management, history, museum studies or related area from an accredited institution or equivalent.
At least one year of experience in archives, library, or related area.
Strong organizational skills; effective oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications; physical ability to lift archival boxes weighing up to 35 pounds and to push a loaded cart up to 100 pounds; knowledge of North American architecture.
Current authorization to be employed in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

Advanced degree in library or archival science, history, architecture, historic preservation, or related area.
Experience with information technology applications in an archives and/or library environment; experience with ArchivesSpace or related collection management platform(s).
Experience working with architectural and design records and/or performing records management tasks in a design firm; experience creating descriptive metadata; experience conducting historical research.

Responsibilities

Analyze, organize, arrange, and create collection-level and item-level description for archival materials including architectural and design drawings, photographs, objects, ephemera, and other records, according to archival best practices and professional and national standards.
In collaboration with the Archivist for Architectural and Design Records, identify and select architectural and design drawings and other materials for digitization, access, and discovery in the University Libraries’ digital repositories in accordance with applicable copyright and access standards and considerations.
Collaborate with the Archivist for Architectural and Design Records in organizing and preparing archival materials for digitization, access, and discovery in the University Libraries’ digital repositories; research, create, and record descriptive metadata for materials to be digitized and born-digital materials; develop and manage databases and web-based tools for access and discovery.
Perform preservation and conservation tasks to ensure sound and efficient preservation of archival materials including cleaning, humidifying, flattening, and encapsulating archival materials.
Support the operations of the Andrew Seager Archives of the Built Environment, including reference services and instruction, as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
