Design Planner - 1st Shift - Springfield, OH
About The Position
Works with customers, the Customer Account Specialist, engineering, and installers to create functional and attractive layout designs for Fire & Emergency Vehicle compartments. The role involves safely mounting various types of industry-specific equipment while maximizing storage capacity. The process begins with a customer pre-construction meeting to identify vehicle layout, equipment, and specific customer wants and requirements. Preliminary layout/design sketches are used by the Customer Account Specialist for cost estimates and build times, and are communicated with the customer for review and approval. This role also involves developing and maintaining strong working relationships with external customers and multiple internal disciplines, including Customer Account Specialist, engineering, fabrication, assembly, and sales.
Requirements
- Strong interpersonal and communication (written & verbal) skills.
- Knowledge of industry trends and Fire & Emergency vehicle body styles.
- Working knowledge of OneNote, Adobe, Microsoft applications, and/or other design software to create customer-facing three-dimensional digital mockups.
- Minimum of a relevant associate degree and/or 3-5 years of Fire & Emergency service compartment layout/design; bachelor’s degree or relevant experience required.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional and courteous relationships with customers and co-workers.
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.
- Ability to work in a confined area.
- Light to moderate lifting is required.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required; including quarter-driven hours as business demands dictate.
Nice To Haves
- Fire and Emergency service background and/or manufacturing experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Participate in customer pre-construction meetings.
- Participate in initial design and layout walkaround with customer.
- Participate in final customer walkaround at delivery.
- Work directly with the customer making recommendations based upon industry experience for specific mounting solutions (e.g., tool boards, FMI Suzans, tip down trays, oil dry hoppers, shelving and storage).
- Analyze specifications, drawings, and other information to prepare accurate and time-sensitive compartment management solution drawings.
- Solve complex organizational/tool placement issues when designing compartment layouts.
- Communicate design/build issues with the sales & contract administrator so that necessary changes can be discussed with the customer.
- Work with the installation supervisor to ensure the design is being followed by installers.
- Communicate changes in design/layout with the installation supervisor.
- Communicate regularly with the Customer Account Specialist to ensure timelines are being met.
- Attend industry events in support of the role.
- Manage tasks in a fast-paced environment including significant multi-tasking and adherence to tight schedules/timelines.
