About The Position

A Design Planner II performs comprehensive design projects requiring knowledge of specialized areas of city planning and design. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where normal working conditions are encountered. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, urban design, environmental design or environmental studies.
  • Two years of experience performing planning work.
  • Master’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, urban design, environmental design or environmental studies and one year of experience performing planning work.
  • Knowledge of urban planning, design, and landscape architecture principles with an understanding of current design trends with the ability to prepare and review detailed development plans is required.
  • Strong communication and graphic skills with the ability to work independently is required.
  • Knowledge of research methodology as it applies to community and urban planning studies.
  • Knowledge of trends in urban landscape architecture and design.
  • Knowledge of horticulture.
  • Skill in preparing detailed landscape plans and graphic representations.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of design programs including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up and/or CAD programs preferred.
