About The Position

Responsible for overseeing the creation of artwork and structural box samples to assist Sales Representatives in sales promotions. This role involves formulating and communicating ideas for new accounts or products, analyzing customer needs and production feasibility, and occasionally accompanying Sales Representatives to present new products or designs to customers or prospects. The Design Manager will review accounts and make recommendations for updates on style, board weight, and new developments. They will also analyze changes in the industry and research innovations in equipment that can be adapted to company operations. A key responsibility is the performance of subordinates, including meeting deadlines and coordinating priority levels of workload, while implementing, maintaining, and supporting all company policies and procedures, including safety and good housekeeping.

Requirements

  • Experience in a graphics, drafting or related field.
  • Good communicator with customers and sales staff.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation.
  • Working knowledge of cost issues in order to make daily decisions that will reduce overall costs and will help the supervisor find areas that require improvement.
  • Working knowledge of budget development, adherence and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of quality standards.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements including but not limited to wage and hour requirements, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements including OSHA, DEQ and EEO.
  • Superior time management skills including the ability to manage multiple issues concurrently and the ability to lead an effective and efficient meeting.
  • Teaching skills in order to function effectively as a teacher for his personnel both in the technical and administrative parts of the position.
  • Excellent crisis manager who demonstrates that he/she has a high emotional control under adverse conditions and can lead his/her personnel to a successful resolution.
  • Excellent employee relations skills including being an active listener, understanding how to appraise personnel, applying both positive and corrective feedback, being able to resolve conflicts either involving the supervisor directly or as a third party, understands and demonstrates positive motivational skills including coaching and delegation techniques.
  • Demonstrated confidence including providing a consistent leadership style with an acceptable level of professional assertiveness.

  • Experience in a production/manufacturing facility, especially in the corrugated industry.
