About The Position

VSC Fire & Security is seeking a Design Manager in Charlotte, North Carolina. The company provides fire protection, life-safety, and security solutions, including fire suppression and detection systems, sprinklers, alarms, and security systems. The Design Manager leads the Design Department and oversees design work performed by Layout Technicians, including layout, field checking, equipment submittals, hydraulic calculations, installation requirements, and project closeout. The role also involves coordinating fire suppression systems with other mechanical systems and trades, and maintaining safety and risk-management procedures at job sites.

Requirements

• Five to seven years of experience with AutoCAD or SprinkCAD, or a background in fire protection.
• NICET Level III or IV.
• Understanding of NFPA requirements, local Authorities Having Jurisdiction, fire and building codes, and state and local code requirements.
• Ability to interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail.
• Strong negotiation and problem-resolution abilities, with leadership aptitude.
• Ability to work autonomously while organizing, planning, and prioritizing multiple projects to meet deadlines.
• Ability to pass various background checks.
• Reliable transportation and a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record for use of a company vehicle.

Nice To Haves

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in drafting (AutoCAD).

Responsibilities

• Manage, supervise, and train the Design Department.
• Oversee design layouts, field checking, material and equipment submittals, hydraulic calculations, applicable installation requirements, and closeout procedures performed by Layout Technicians.
• Integrate other mechanical systems with fire suppression systems and identify potential conflicts with other trades.
• Maintain appropriate risk-management and safety procedures on job sites in accordance with VSC policies.
• Review architectural, mechanical, site, and structural drawings; complete site surveys; and research information needed for structural and mechanical elements.
• Monitor and enforce safety policies and procedures.
