About The Position

Wide Angle Youth Media is seeking candidates for a Design Intern. This is a part-time position designed to serve as a launchpad for a career in graphic design for high school graduates, current college students, and recent college graduates. The role involves on-the-job training, working on design projects from ideation to completion, including production and deliverable creation. Design work will be conducted both in-person and virtually. This paid training program requires 12-15 hours per week, with potential for additional summer hours (up to 25 hours/week) through employment partners like YouthWorks for interns aged 18-26. The hourly pay starts at $17.00-$18.00, with potential wage increases based on job performance at 250, 500, 750, and 1000 hours of work. During the academic year, interns must be available from 9 am - 5 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. This is a 24-month position, after which the intern may advance to a new role or receive assistance in pursuing other media roles. At 500 hours, there's a potential eligibility for a full-time placement as a Design A2W Apprentice.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate basic competency in some or all of the following tasks: design ideation, production, and deliverable creation.
  • Resume and cover letter submission.
  • Successful state and federal background check clearance.
  • Availability from 9 am - 5 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays during the academic year.

Responsibilities

  • Ideation: Developing pitches and presenting to clients, creating copywriting, drafting questions in support of developing a design solution, making moodboards, and critiquing with the internal team.
  • Design: Working within Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, Procreate, Figma, and other needed design tools, as well as working directly with clients and talent.
  • Deliverables: Organizing design assets for production, editing presentations and finalized design files, assembling and cataloging designs, sourcing client-needed typography, and handing off designed assets.
  • Mentoring: Sharing skills and expertise with younger students in Wide Angle's programs.
